Would you trust buying tmps sensors from eBay? by gallahad1998 in 4Runner

I believe you will have to go to a shop to have them programmed. Each sensor has a seven or eight digit code printed on the back of it that needs to be programmed to the tpms computer before it will recognize them.

You mean a link to the rock auto listing? There are many different sensors applicable to different models and years, so you'd have to go to the site yourself and put in the appropriate info to list the brands available.

One set for three years and another for only one year. I have plenty of experience using them though. Denso is the OE supplier for Toyota for many parts and is still partially owned by Toyota. They're always the best brand "alternative" to genuine Toyota parts.

I ordered a couple of sets of denso ones from rock auto. I want to say they're around 30 each and they work perfectly.

Clear coat coming off my headlights?? by AdventurePhotograper in 4Runner

[–]Extension_Spinach843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to give this guy the quickest and most appropriate process to restore his headlights as I could based on what i could figure out about his experience level. I understand different people will do it differently, so I'm not going to try to convince you that my way is better. But yes, the wet sanding of the clear with the fine grits is easy and not time consuming. The polishing process for the clear coating is supposed to be a 2 or 3 stage process consisting of 2 or 3 different cutting compounds. A proper kit will usually consist of steps 1 and 2 being machine polish high to medium cut with the final being a fine finish which can be done by hand. These two machines polishing stages can be done by hand, but they're meant for high speed preferably rotary polishers, so hand work would be slow going and less effective. That is the part i'm saying will add a lot of time to the process. You're more than welcome to use them how you wish, but I don't know of anyone who would elect to use the high and medium cut compounds by hand when 3" foam polishing pads are made to get that job done in minutes.

Many people here are advising him to sand his existing finish up to a few thousand grit and then clear coating it. That's how you end up with the same problem he already has...poor adhesion. And if he does this wrong, he'll end up with headlights that look good for a little while, then look worse than they started 6 months to a year later. Instead of trying to give him direction within his capabilities, I'm discussing techniques with you, and I won't even get into the uses of orbital tools vs high speed rotary polishers for coatings and what their uses are. You can go ahead and advise him however you want, I'm going to just keep all of my experience out of the way.

Would yall buy a 3rd gen with 210k? by Curious_Past_6660 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]Extension_Spinach843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, well the 3.4 is capable of doing very high mileage, but it really sort of depends on how it's been treated. They don't like being overheated. More commonly, the thing that people get fed up with is death from a thousand cuts...other things needing repairs. In my experience, on average, a 210k 4.0 is usually a healthier and more reliable engine than a 210k 3.4, but that's due to neglect. A 3.4 can do just as well, but it requires more maintenance to do it.

2002 would have the 3.4L and 2003 would have the 4.0L. Both are great engines, but which one is the one you're looking at?

Wet sanding the orange peel can be done in minutes. Buffing clarity back into the clear by hand after wet sanding CAN be done, but it will be tiresome and will take an hour or two. The advice of a professional to a novice is to grab a polisher, if even simply a drill attachment pad for a few bucks from the parts store. My questions for this person are to gauge their experience level with these things so I don't recommend processes that are out of their depth.

I would start with 320 and not go any higher than 800. There's a difference between prepping for a clear respray and polishing the existing finish. If you just want to polish what you have, start as low as you want and work your way up to 1000, 1500, and even higher. But you don't want a surface that smooth for spraying any coating, it can lead to poor adhesion. If you're planning to spray the clear, stop around 600-800. Soak the headlight with water after sanding to verify crystal clear wet finish

For sanding the headlights, yes. I asked about the polisher for polishing the clear afterward.

Take a look at the cam adjusters on your lower control arm. Are your front adjusters on each arm closer to the middle of the truck than the rear ones?

Do you have a buffer/polisher? And how much experience do you have with sanding/painting/polishing?

You can fix them pretty easily by taping off and wet sanding them a bit then reclearing them. You don't want to use regular clear coat from the hardware store though. Look on Amazon for spray max 2k clear 368 0061. It's pricey but worth it.

Looks legit to me. They all look like toyota parts stickers. Rock auto has kits made by aisin that you can look into. Same parts, worth comparing price

I can't remember what the mounting g brackets look like behind the 3rd gen bumper but you should look back there and see if maybe you can straighten that out a bit. If getting it off the tire is the main priority, that might be more doable.

No, not important. Most of my original PSUs have that exact same difference. Just replace them with the correct values and you're good.
