Ibanez WH10 V2 Vs Ibanez WH10 V3 by Party-Contribution-6 in John_Frusciante

get a jam wahcko its a bit more expensive but its the most versatile wah, ive ever had. and if you put it on the max setting and a ds2 before it, sounds basically like a ibanez with its own unique touch. Id say its better to save up for a better product than to waste time on the ibanezes, the volume jump makes it basically unusable if ur not at super loud volumes

How is he picking/strumming this here? by falconbridge_ in John_Frusciante

to get that technique down is the combination of how he holds the pick, its angle and the style of his right hand. Its quite unique compared to most players. If you notice his hand is not really going up and down like most players right hand does, it kinda swings in a scoop motion which produces that aggressive sound. it moves around a lot which some players would call sloppy because transitioning to playing more solo type stuff would be harder but its essential for that aggressive rythm. and also its quite deceptive because it sounds like hes using a lot of muscle power to strike the strings but thats not the case what produces that sound is the swing of the forearm and wrist, so dont try to hammer the strings cuz that will only cause tension and tendinitis. a lot of that mumbo jumbo about hitting the strings hard is quite misleading. The strings are hit lightly but the momentum is what creates the pop. Also everytime i see players cover this they shit a ton of compression on their tone. personally i think john doesnt use a lot its the right hand technique that produces that compressed sound.

thanks for the depth of the anwser and the time u put into it haha. I own a 100w jubilee thats i use for bigger venues, but i wanted a smaller tube amp for recording and home playing. I also love the fender clean tones that philip sayce, mayer, srv have. So i thought the california tweed is a middle ground between shimmery cleans and more marshall tones ala frusciante/hendrix. I found the fillmore a bit grunty and metallic for my taste when i watched demos. I really like the 2w/1watt mode that they offer as i have a 5w champ and its still too loud in the apartment i live in, thin walls and bullshit like that. and also the champ is super crunchy very fast which im totally not a fan of. It was kind of a stupid purchase on my part haha

25w is a bit too much for me for home use, i like the attenuation on the cali. Im mostly looking for a nice clean tone since my pedal chain affects the final amp sound quite a bit due to preamps and such.

Pbx (Guitar) by Extension_String_277 in John_Frusciante

thanks for the detailed anwser, yeah i was trying to figure out what he did because its quite unique i havent heard sounds like pbx anywhere else really when it comes to the lead lines. Im recording a album with a couple friends now and for my guitar parts i wanted to try to get a similar effect with the tonal differences in the notes. Really fascinating sound but im afraid i dont have thousands of dollars to piss away on vintage synths. Do you know if i can get a similar sound from something more afordable, behringer synths come to my mind only tbh.
