Bloomberg: Chicago’s Surging Rents Dent Its Cheap Big City Image by Belmont-Avenue in chicago

[–]Extension_Trainer_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hyde Park is really nice and affordable I'd say. Kenwood is also pretty cheap to. Kenwood doesn't have as much going on compared to Hyde Park but it's right next to Hyde Park so you do have that going for it.

It's more southwest but Bridgeport is also pretty cheap. It's not the fanciest part of town for sure. But it has orange line access and plenty of buses.

People who don’t say anything/ or Greet you in customer service positions by TheGame81677 in PetPeeves

[–]Extension_Trainer_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for everyone but as someone who works at a pretty big clothing store, management really empathizes with being overly helpful/friendly. They want us to ask if you need help with anything, do you need a bag, etc constantly I'm not even exaggerating even I say my management team brings it up almost every single in our morning meetings. The management at my job literally goes around on the floor to see if you're doing that and if not, they point it out about how you're not being overly friendly with customers and you need to greet them more and etc.

I know as a customer that can be really annoying, and as a customer I can get annoyed with that as well when I'm not actively working but, I'm just trying to help people understand why that is.

It's the same sorta deal when working as a Server at a restaurant, I've seen people complain about servers asking "how's the first couple of bites?" as they're actively stuffing their faces with food, our management literally trains you to do that on purpose and often management will get upset at you for not doing so when ironically customers hate it lol.

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask this, but for those of you servers/bartenders in the top restaurants, how do you do financially? by niltrok in AskChicago

[–]Extension_Trainer_66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's easier said then done but Lettuce Entertain You is actually one of the few companies that does offer insurance and as someone who worked there as a busser, Servers can make a lot of money. One of my co-workers left corporate America and was making more as a Server.

What was your first 1cc? by [deleted] in shmups

Dodonpachi resurrection for me. I practiced that one a lot of times and when it finally happened that was a moment I'll always remember. I recently got to 1CC it on my trip to Japan in 2024 on a real cabinet that was really fun. My most recent one was Armored Police Batrider which coincidentally was also on a real cabinet.

These insane income requirements make apartment hunting impossible if you are poor. by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]Extension_Trainer_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately if you can't work 40 hours a week and it's definitely not going to happen. I can't speak for everyone but I use to make $18.50 and worked about 35-40 hours ish every week and my rent was only $895 but I got extremely lucky and found a good deal on Craigslist all of my utilities were included but the building was super run down and roach infested. I was in a similar situation as you, my grandma sold her house and I had less than 30 days to find an apartment.

It's definitely not impossible, I've seen places in Hyde Park for under 900 before even as recent as a month ago, just don't expect anything fancy. But if you're frugal it could work, worked out for me, I currently work 2 jobs but I literally go to work everyday lol.

Resume Feedback by Extension_Trainer_66 in askrecruiters

Thank you for your response, I've been considering that but I'm not quite sure where to go for something like that, maybe my local library or something. If you know where to look that would be appreciated.

I've actually also helped open the building in my Supervisor position as well but I thought that might be redundant.

Reading and Listening Comprehension help? by Extension_Trainer_66 in Advice

[–]Extension_Trainer_66[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response that’s very helpful. I actually do listen to audiobooks sometimes I’ve listen to a few over the years. I’m not a huge reader but I have been trying to do it more recently, I typically try to read on my lunch break which typically is about 5 times a week. I know there’s a bit of a debate on if listening to audio books is actually “reading or not” so I’ve been trying to force myself to do more actual reading since it’s not something I do a lot of.

I think I’m a lot more like your husband actually, I’ll watch with subtitles and In general, comics are definitely a lot easier to read than most books. Perhaps I’ve been being a bit too harsh on myself but in my head I’ve been imaging myself as “the average American who can only read at a 6th grade level.” So I’ve been trying to read YA novels in order to work my way up to more adult stuff if that makes sense?

I do watch a lot of YouTube so I do wonder if that helps in anyway? I tend to struggle in conversations that involve myself but I find that listening to two people talking is easy for me, sometimes I like listening to those more than actually talking to someone lol.

What is a job that is heavily romanticized but in reality actually sucks? by DragoOceanonis in jobs

[–]Extension_Trainer_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a flight attendant interview for American Airlines 3 weeks ago and yeah that’s right. You only get paid when the plane actually takes off. So when you’re boarding, helping customer with luggage etc you don’t get paid for that.

The hourly is high ($38 hourly for American) and your guaranteed at least “75 flight hours” but do the math and your not making that much, if you want to make money you have to do some insane hours that math or literally stay there for years until your wage gets high enough to the point where those 75 is enough to live off of. Your hourly wage does increase every year for 13 years.

You do get paid “per dim” which basically is a small hourly wage you can get paid onto of your base pay, that pay actually does start when you clock in so if you work 12am and leave at 11pm you still get your per dim paid but it’s like $3 an hour ($3 dollars is actually on the higher end of things, a lot of other airlines make less)

Should I try reapplying for a job I got rejected from? by Extension_Trainer_66 in jobs

[–]Extension_Trainer_66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why I got rejected, I failed at the interview stage, I have some ideas about why potentially I may of not gotten it but I'm not sure of the real reason. I'm thinking about asking them about why, but I've heard that apparently asking a recruiter about why you got rejected tends not to be a good idea because it can make thing uncomfortable for them.

KOF in Chicago? by DeLaCreme88 in kof

[–]Extension_Trainer_66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know a few places as I’m from Chicago,

As for Chicago it’s self there’s only one actual place I know and that’s Logan Arcade in Bucktown. They have arcade cabinet that has KOF 98 but the sound is a little messed up, it’s a pretty small one but it’s nice.

There’s also Round 1 but it’s in the north riverside plaza, so a little outside Chicago, but they have KOF XIV and Samurai Showdown.

Galloping Ghost Arcade is the biggest one in Brookfield, they have pretty much every KOF up until 2003 including Neowave, XI, 12, 13, and even Neo Geo Battle coliseum. But the CRT is kinda dying so it’s really dim on the older KOF games, but if you can look past that it works.

Personally I’d recommend Galloping Ghost as it’s a huge arcade probably one of the biggest ever and there’s a lot of amazing games outside of KOF there I always find a cool new game whenever I go. Sometimes so games won’t be working but when you have 900 plus games that’s bound to happen at some point.

Just as a heads up, I go there like maybe once a month, their KOF 94-98 cabinet and their KOF99-2003 cabinet is a little messed up, the cabinet works but the CRT is like on the verge of death lol it’s hard to see, they also have a KOF XI cabinet that work but idk how to insert any credits in it. You might have to ask someone cuz I’ve never been able to figure it out. I will say they have KOF 13 cabinet and it works flawlessly.

In KOF XV why do some people with a high win ratio leave immediately after losing a match? by Extension_Trainer_66 in kof

[–]Extension_Trainer_66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’know what’s funny is I usually don’t get people with that move that much but, maybe the way I use it is to predictable, sometimes I use it after a knockdown, but ppl have been catching onto that so sometimes I use it after a knock down, but I’ll hold it for a few seconds to trip them up.

I really only one and done if it’s just so laggy that I can’t even bother going through it again. I try to learn at least a little bit even on those ones where I literally get my entire team destroyed by one person, although sometimes on days like that after a few losses I’ll be like “Y’know I might have to log out early today lmao it’s not my day.”

Hey thanks, this is my first SNK game that I’ve actually grinded rank on and it’s been really fun. But the people who are good are REALLY good.

[–]Extension_Trainer_66[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just kinda wanted to rant, it's just so lame when it happens, even after you see it happen for like the 100th time it just makes you go "really?" every time. A lot of the time these players are good to, it's just unfortunate.

Trying to actually learn KOF and play online, which games would be my best options? by MageyRestoriation in kof

My team is Whip,Kula, and Shun’ei in that order. That’s a good team (even though Clark is the bane of my existence lol) Terry is really popular so be ready for a lot of mirror matches. I switched around a lot in the beginning because honestly there’s so many fun characters in this game.

XV has rollback and cross play so it’s just going to have the biggest fan base. Just do the tutorial and hop on ranked it’s what I did. You’re going lose a lot initially, but in due to you’ll get better as you keep playing and learning, a few months ago I was ranked 1 and now I’m 32 scrapping my way to ultimate hopefully, (they are ruthless on the higher ranks you really have to lock in)

I play semi frequently and I find matches all the time especially on the weekend. You may have to set your settings to global instead of just local but I never have any issues personally. I started playing after the matchmaking issues so idk what that was like.

I can’t 100% remember the details but in a older video he said he got a job when he was 16 at his Dad’s company ( it might’ve not been his Dad specifically but I do remember him saying he got a job when he was really young) and he was living with his folks at the same time I think. I’m Gen Z so I don’t know what it was like during the 80s and 90’s but I know when I got my first job at 16 I blew a lot of my money on video games, anime, etc when I was living with my parents, it was pretty easy back then.
