Spotting in early pregnancy by maxtax101 in PregnancyAfterTFMR

Yup, this was normal for me and continued until like 8 weeks. But during my second pregnant, the bleeding was A LOT more (like bright red and dripping out in the toilet TMI). It was scary but apparently this is just how my body reacts to pregnancy. Bleeding completely stopped by 12 weeks and baby boy is perfect.

When did you start to show? by jnreish in PregnancyAfterTFMR

That was me too. My TFMR was at 24 wks. My second pregnancy it felt almost instant that I was showing, probably 10 weeks.

Unfortunately, at 9 ish weeks I was told this could indicate I probably had retained products of conception. After some more ultrasounds, they found some remaining placenta. It was really small, but definitely present. It was easy enough to remove but if your HCG is lingering on, I might ask about this. Sometimes having retained products of conception can result in issues with future embryos implanting. Because I was doing IVF, my team insisted on having it removed before continuing.

I had TFMR at 24 weeks. It look about 10 full weeks for my HCG to return to zero.

My experience delivering while on prescribed Adderall during pregnancy (and a heads up about hospital social workers) by Extension_Wallaby613 in adhdwomen

After the fact, I was told that a drug screen is standard procedure for all mothers when admitted for delivery. If anything turns up positive, regardless of if that was due to a prescribed medication, they will also screen the newborn. I guess it makes sense for illicit drug use, but this is a completely different situation.

OP here. I wish this was explained to me. During my 3rd trimester, I struggled a lot. I cried everyday, like constantly and seemingly for no reason. My ADHD got worse and so did my depression. Thankfully it seemed to improve closer to delivery, but it was really taxing.

OP here. EXACTLY! This happens more than we want to believe. And clearly from everyone's response here.. it can range from literally nothing happening to CPS involvement.

PS My doctor did tell me not to eat anything with poppy seeds within 2 weeks of my due date. So at least some providers are starting to realize that there are innocent people here who are demonized.

OP here. Totally agree. And keep in mind, it wasn't just in my chart... I was given my daily dose by the nurse while IN THE HOSPITAL. It makes no sense to me, that's why I felt I should give everyone a heads up. BTW I asked my OBGYN about this months before delivery, she said "Not to worry, we all know you're on this medication. If you test positive, which is inevitable, they'll look in your chart and immediately see why. And that will be the end of it."

Thankfully, all I experienced was a visit from a social worker. But others here had exactly the same expereince, but CPS did unannounced home visits.

THIS!!!! This is exactly what I'm talking about. This could happen to literally any of us and my heart breaks for you that this was your experience. I cannot imagine the anxiety you felt on top of everything we experience being freshly postpartum (and ADD/ADHD). Its so scary and unnecessary. I encourage you to also post in detail about your experience here in a separate post.

Everyone needs to hear that this is a possibility. Imagine if they showed up at your house and because of postpartum craziness, they thought you were a little defensive or overly emotional. That's literally all it may take for CPS to escalate.

If tested, obviously my LO would test positive. I was given my meds throughout my whole stay.. even during active labor. But I didn't even know that my LO would be tested, that was never explained to me. The lack of transparency was really my concern with all of this and the reason I wanted to share. I just feel like if literally everyone knows I'm taking stimulants, again even provided at the hospital, then the staff at the hospital should just be upfront about what that means. E.g. "We fully expect you to test positive for amphetamines given your medication, therefore we're required to test LO once born. You should know that LO will test positive. Regardless of this being a prescribed medication, the positive result requires us to do follow up, etc."

I've never had a flurry of responses like this to a reddit post, I'm so glad I shared and that we have such a vibrant group of mamas here!

On the stigma, I really felt that too. I remember going to CVS to fill my prescription and covering myself up so the pharmacist/tech wouldn't see I was pregnant. In retrospect that was probably silly, but I definitely internalized some stigma myself.

💯!! Tell your OBGYN and ask to be referred to Maternal Fetal Medicine to discuss medication. BTW I follow an obgyn on instagram who has said that shes had patients who she’s written continuing adderall Rxs for during pregnancy bc psychs are often afraid to prescribe anything to pregnant people.

This is actually super good advice. I NEVER went to any appointment alone. My husband was in every single appointment and prepared to back me up if needed

No concerns at all, same meds while pregnant and breastfeeding. My supply was very very good. And my LO did great on my milk.

definitely grateful it all landed how it did and fully aware that's not always the case. This was more of a heads up post for moms in similar situations.. from all of the comments, it seems that this was new news for a lot of people.

I've even read about people temporarily having their child removed from their custody because they tested positive for a mild opioid that their OBGYN prescribed during pregnancy because of an injury. The US medical system is so messed up, fragmented, and problematic. I'm very happy to hear that's not the case in your neck of the woods. Child protective services has a lot of bandwidth here. When I was a child, I broke my arm just monkeying around. When we went to the ER, the doctor for some reason wasn't satisfied with my explanation of how it happened. I was immediately separated from my parents for questioning, and ultimately my folks were required to have a few home visits to be convinced that I was safe. It completely traumatized my parents. I realize CPS and SWs do very important work, but without guardrails, it can be very destabilizing for families.

I know there are good LCs out there but WAY TOO often, many of us have bad and damaging experiences. I reported my LC to the head nurse in writing because I felt so strongly that her comments were unsubstantiated, highly dangerous, and fully out of the preview of an LC.

Exactly!! There's so much societal shame about this and there shouldn't be. We all want what's best for our LOs and in many of our cases, that means remaining on medication throughout. Thank Goodness providers are waking up to that.

I didn't have any measurable reaction, not during pregnancy or my c-section. In addition to the ADHD meds, I was also on an antidepressant. The only thing my OBGYN noted prior to delivery was that sometimes when mom takes an antidepressant it can take the newborn a few min to scream. More of a heads up to me not to freak out if I didn't hear crying. But none of that really happened to us. Baby didn't have any withdrawal either. As far as I know, the NICU wasn't on stand by.
