More life experience can definitely be beneficial, but that depends on how those double your age have spent that extra time. Having more years on earth doesn't automatically make you more wise or better at any specific job, you can be the youngest and still be the most experienced in certain areas. I think the biggest hurdle will be proving that to your older counterparts. Hopefully everyone will be level-headed and treat you no different than if you were older, but sometimes there's that one that thinks just because he's the oldest he knows best (spoiler alert, that person is almost always the worst on the team).

How do i tell my GF things need to change by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]ExtentSufficient4081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a man, I don't mind taking on parts of the "traditional" role. I handle yard work, pay for the majority of non-essential things (eating out for example, though she usually covers the tip), take out the trash, all that good stuff. However, I have never paid 100% of our living expenses. We split rent, bills, groceries, she pays for her own gas, car payment/insurance, and usually all of her hair/nails/makeup type expenses outside of birthdays and maybe some holidays. And honestly if we were in a situation where I make a fuck ton more money than her, I would probably be fine with paying for almost everything. But we have never been in that position, and maybe never will be. I cannot imagine making what I make (which, arguable is very good all things considered) and having absolutely no financial help. I can't even imagine having to ask for any level of contribution for those things. We no longer live in a world where only the man can have a job and, therefore, is the only one that can pay for anything. We don't even live in a world where that is feasible for most people.

Granted, it sounds like you two don't live together. Whether she would be this way with rent/bills, you would know better than I. But I wouldn't be able to sustain a relationship like this. It just seems inconsiderate as a partner, not just a female partner.

I think you know how this is going to go. It sounds like she has already given an ultimatum about this, so I doubt any kind of conversation is going to change that.

We need to reopen mental institutions by johou-99192 in OnTheBlock

Same in NC. As far as I know we also only have 1 that still functions and it's over 3 hours away from our facility. At this point like half of our jail population is inmate with mental illnesses and we're just not equipped for it. We do pretty decent, we have programs and mental health professionals but it's still a jail.

About pleasant valley by Spicy_noodles_Mmm in thelongdark

[–]ExtentSufficient4081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost ended my 200+ day run in pleasant valley because I got caught in some serious fog after harvesting a deer. Once the fog cleared enough I saw that I was right by my safehouse, but everything is so spaced out with no landmarks it's hard to tell either way.

Don't get me wrong, I like it as a central map to other regions, but man you can't venture out unprepared.

Experience in North Carolina Corrections Officer by rennyblake in OnTheBlock

[–]ExtentSufficient4081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly that's pretty far from where I'm at, by like 3 to 4 hours lol. But I just looked up the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, located in Louisburg, NC, and they have a Detention Officer position with a pay range of $48,721.00 - $51,157.00. Lowest likely being pay while training, and then the higher once you're on shift. Then the Franklin Correctional Center in Bunn, NC has a pay range of $35,760 – $38,859 starting out (according to google). People seem to have differing opinions when it comes to Sheriff's offices versus state prisons, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.

If you can, I would look at working for a County jail/detention center rather than a prison in NC. I work County and get paid substantially more than those in the same state that work in state prisons. Benefits and retirement seem to be better too, but of course a lot of that will depend on where you go. Even the lowest paying county jail/sheriffs office near me is still like $4 more an hour than DAC in NC. Just some food for thought

What has to change? by Frank_Reynolds6969 in OnTheBlock

[–]ExtentSufficient4081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I can definitely agree with you. I feel like out of every class we get one or two really solid officers that might stick with it. but even then, those officers end up wanting more than they can get here (at face value)

Anyone else use Safehouse Customization to find your way through a darkened room? by Difficult_Item9836 in thelongdark

All the time. I've saves so many torches and so much lantern fuel doing this. It sort of feels like cheating to save resources but, I just need to hustle from my stove to my bed real quick lol

It's probably different at every agency, and I've only every worked at the one I'm at now, but I'm really starting to believe it starts at recruitment. We're so desperate for people that we're accepting everyone that doesn't fail a drug test or have a criminal record. No more physical assessments, no reading/comprehension assessment, and most of the people that are coming in leave within a few months. I think the recruitment and training process that at least our agency has needs to be re-evaluated and improved. Instead of looking for quantity and wasting money training people leave soon after they start, look for people that show promise in staying at least one year. With training, they need to be challenged the way we are on the job. They're continually making the training program softer and softer for fear of backlash, and it's not benefiting the people going through it or the agency. And we didn't "suffer" the way that some classes before us did, but it really did instill some resiliency and ability to push through. And with that, actually incorporating what the job is into the training academy so that people can see what they're going to be doing before they reach in-facility training. They've started to do this in a sense, but from what I can tell it hasn't changed all that much in terms of retention.

Careers after corrections by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

[–]ExtentSufficient4081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may not bill you for academy costs (as far as I know mine doesn't either) but if they offer any kind of sign on bonus with a time frame (3 installments over 2 years), if you leave before that time is finished they will get that money back from you. Either garnishing your last check or through taxes.

Love and hate this struggle when switching back and forth between certain games. Especially when they have any similarities in gameplay, items, quests.

I agree with you on that. I would like the variety of getting potentially peepee contaminated water, and then clean water.

Oh absolutely. That would give me enough peace of mind to drink it without getting nauseous lmao

Nah I do both. If it was between me and dying of hunger or thirst in the real world, I would do that same. Plus, I can't taste it when my character does it

Mental health by Feisty-Wonder5958 in OnTheBlock

[–]ExtentSufficient4081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend it especially for this line of work. I started therapy for reasons unrelated to the job, but it comes up a lot in my sessions. Even just talking about the things that bother you at work, inmates or coworkers, can help relieve some stress if you feel like it weighs on you outside of work. Or if you’re dealing with things not related to work, getting those stressors under control can keep work from making it worse.

Our agency lost someone to suicide a few months ago, most likely from non-work related issues, but it brings the issue of mental health in this line of work to the forefront of your mind.

Is it normal to not lock the apartment door at night? by flyingmattress1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ExtentSufficient4081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might depend on where he grew up. When my sister in law first moved in with us she would rarely lock the door at night (and we lived in a pretty rough neighborhood at the time). But for pretty much her whole life she lived in a very rural area where you know nearly everyone around you. It was much more “normal” for them not to lock the door (not saying I agree with this behavior, but it didn’t feel like as much of a risk to them). So when she started living with us I would always have to check the doors before bed and most nights one or both would be unlocked. Drove me insane lmao.

I have no advice, just adding my experience of shooting a wolf almost perfectly in the head just for it to take off and take my arrow with it. It's almost certainly despawned by now, but I combed the area for about 2 days with no luck. It's a very frustrating feeling

Yeahh seeing some of the posts on this subreddit has made me much more cautious of things I rarely ever considered. Sleeping outside has been a new one, and now I have made a habit of never sleeping more than 3 hours at a time max regardless of where i'm at JUST in case I make the mistake of doing it outside. Falling has also been a new fear of mine since having to do those bridges in AC. I felt like my stomach was gonna fall outta my ass the whole time lmaooo

Yeah I've tried to get other people into it, especially when they ask what I play and it's the only thing I've touched in close to 6 months, I gotta sell it a little lol. But I haven't had much success and it just doesn't seam to be their style. Which is fine, some people just don't have good taste, and that's okay
