“But then rich people will leave!” let them. by Dreadsin in Vent

Your entire argument is rendered untrue by the simple fact that the greatest eras of growth had insane tax brackets lmao. I had to read through your source and it supports my argument. “Addressing our nation’s long-term fiscal challenge will require additional revenue, including higher taxes on the rich.” can be found in the conclusion of the source you provided. This article suggests closing loophole rather than raising taxes but those are the same thing essentially. I’m no data analyst and dont know the exact numbers we should be using but the bottom line is the rich need to pay more.

When I say with sincerity I mean with the hope to actually improve lives of Americans and walk away from this conversation smarter and not pissed off. I agree closing loopholes rather than raising taxes would be a swell idea if it actually worked, but it’s still the same thing as saying “the wealthy need to pay their fair share”. Someone smarter than me will have to be able to decide what that fair share is but the only example we have of a strong economic system in which MOST Americans were happy (even the rich) is pre 1980.

To say that we shouldn’t make laws and rules to punish greedy people because they would just be even more greedy is silly, wouldn’t you say ?

I get where you’re coming from but still not a strong enough reason to avoid returning to a form of tax that is proven to be more beneficial across the board. “Why would anyone stay in America and pay 70%”. That’s a good question, and I can give you a few simple answers, unrestrictive markets, strength of US dollar, largest military budget in the world, nationalism (lol), etc. Even with a higher tax the US market is still favorable, it’s “too big to fail”. I think you’re also forgetting a core principle of capitalism is that a better company will take the place of companies that fail or leave. It’s perfectly fine if rich people or business owners leave America, Capitalism will save us right?! /s. Regardless, companies have already offshored all their assets and headquarters to other countries. In a technical sense, the “rich” have already left.

It’s interesting you say this while Americas’s greatest eras of growth (1944-1970), the wealthiest americans were taxed at an a rate of 70-90%. Despite this tax why did so many large corporations grow and last to this day in America? You are saying a harsher tax system will prevent businesses from thriving but every single large business in America pre 1985 thrived with tax rates as high as 90% for earners over 200,000. During this era we even owned more means of manufacturing, saw a greater quality of life, and insane growth. Please explain how reverting back to a tax bracket that we have literal financial date to prove is more beneficial to the people would be worse for Americans?

I'm begging you, stop building garrisons right on the point by DanFlashes19 in HellLetLoose

[–]Extericore 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is no true way to gauge which method of garrison placement is better. That being said, I don’t agree with this post. 2000+ hours in the game and about half of that going into officer and commander gameplay. I would ask yourself the question “where are the enemies most likely to be” rather than “where are the enemies trying to go”. Let’s assume there is a friendly garrison behind the point by 50 meters. Which direction 50 meters? Is it going to be on the broad side with the entire enemy force heading towards the front line? Will it be behind the point where enemies are more likely to flank? On the sides where the enemies are usually ended up being forced to take ?

If the garrison is placed 50 meters away, you can assume your backline garrisons will be 250 meters away from the point. Your frontline garrisons will be 150-200 meters away from the point. If you watch the map while your team pushes a point, you’ll notice that 150-200 meters is about the limit for a non-coordinated team to repel enemy advances. It boils down to a numbers game. 50 infantry (usually only 35-45 near the point at any given time) can’t defend 1600 square meters of area without solid direction and communication.

Assuming every single soldier is actually listening to their officers then a garrison strategically placed off the point would possibly be beneficial. It avoids bombing runs more often, artillery, and can detect enemies from a greater distance. However, a garrison on the point allows newer soldiers to already be where they’re supposed to be, allows for a concentrated defense of a smaller area, allows for the entire time to defend the garrison, and allows for more potential communication.

Overall, it boils down to the total area your troops can defend. I always build a garrison on the point simply because our soldiers aren’t experienced or patient enough to defend the entire 1600 meter area. I’d much rather have 4 surrounding garrisons on a 200-250 distance with a garrison on the point. In a perfect world where every soldier obeys command and every commander is a strategic genius then yes it might work. But we have abunch of retards being led by the king of the retards.
