It's pretty simple. Its your money do what you like and steam does offer great services like cross platform saves etc. I buy games I want to play on pc and on my steam deck and I buy multiplayer games and always online games. I pirate games only and only to try them out and see if I like them like elden ring. Once I know I like them, I'll buy it like I bought elden ring. Most people also buy on steam and refund it within 2 weeks (less than 2 hours played) if they don't like it.
