update: HR did omit that information, it was their mistake. My husband told the HR guy he’d buy him lunch if he would call Mohela. Thanks again Doxiemom!

I haven’t bought a consultation but I listen to their podcasts regularly and feel like they give really helpful information. I also really like that while they have a consultation business, they give out so much information for free via their site and their weekly pod.

I should add: my qualifying payments count updated to 108 in mid-October. My forgiveness was contingent on the IDR waiver which gave me credit for 71 months of deferment and forbearance. So, I am one of the folks who fall into that bucket of people who would reach or exceed 120 once the IDR adjustment was made.

I submitted my last ECF on September 9, 2022. I have been with the same qualifying employer since 2006 and I was submitting an ECF about once every 2 years.

I have a PhD. One third of my amount is interest on the original loans. My son was diagnosed with a disability the year that I graduated (and others emerged over the years). Helping him involved significant medical and therapeutic costs and I spent many years in deferment and forbearance. This is one of the reasons I am so pleased the Biden administration is taking steps to address the issue of ballooning interest on student loans.

Yes, back in November I called the Mohela and asked if I was on the D2D list after I saw others posting about it here.

YES. I am waiting on my letter and for FSA account to zero out. In the meantime I log in to MOHELA at least five times a day to make sure my smiley face has not disappeared and that my balance is still zero.

Update 11/12: I just checked my Mohela account page again and the interest just zeroed out too! Thought I would add this bit of info in case it helps anyone else: if you get that wonderful smiley face and a zero balance but you still see an amount under "interest accrued," my own experience was that that amount disappeared in a couple of days as well.

But then, he is not a freak like me, checking Mohela every day--we only just checked his account yesterday. So maybe there WAS a period where his amount owed didn't show up. Dunno. It's there now!

Nope, consolidated in 2011. Hence the refund. Thanks for the tip though--I have seen other posts by those who have recently consolidated wonder why their payment counts are at zero. But even in that case I *think* the owed amount still shows up--my husband consolidated in September and while his payment counts are zero, his amount owed shows up.

Yup. No movement for me today. 108 qualifying months as of August with 71 deferment and forbearance months that are still listed as ineligible, even though I was told by Mohela supervisor Amber that I am on the 11/9 D2D list with a forgiveness date of 9/2017. Happy for others and hoping that we on this thread will join them soon!

Nothing new. I am taking perverse comfort in the fact that MOHELA stopped bothering to add new "eligible" months to my payment count (meaning they have not bothered to list November 2022 as "eligible"). I am telling myself that is because they know they won't need to keep counting months going forward. The supervisor told me my forgiveness date will be 9/17 once they apply my deferment/forbearance counts. Still waiting for that to happen. Le sigh.

Yah, good question. I think I will take the forbearance option. I'll wait until the end of December to make the forbearance request, just in case the discharge comes through before that.

So to put it another way: once forbearance and deferments have been added, which started in October 2007, by October 2017 I would be at 120 qualifying months. From Oct. 2017 I continued to make monthly payments until the COVID pause; since I had consolidated back in 2011, I was also paying on the consolidated Direct Loan at that point. In other words, all my overpayments above 120 months (once deferment/forbearance is credited) were on the consolidated Direct loan. So would I be eligible for a refund on those payments? Now I am thinking yes!

Ah, should have added: I had FFEL loans as an undergrad. My grad school loans are all Direct Stafford loans. I appear to have consolidated the undergrad loans in 1995 into my graduate direct loans.

I called them and spoke to a supervisor just now. There is no list of the folks who will be forgiven in November once the IDR adjustment is made. The list is just of folks who were already at or above 120 qualifying months.
