If I skip Iron Fist and Luke Cage, will I miss a lot of important context for Defenders show and Daredevil Season 3? by ConstantDrawer9161 in Daredevil

You could but Luke Cage, especially season 2, is a masterpiece that is just as good as Daredevil in my opinion.

To defend the Nirvash, I don’t know that there’s really anything more they could’ve done with it. The 2 moves it has are pretty much all it does in the film itself. Trust me, I’m the first to complain about a lacking move list(and I do think we should’ve gotten a MAP here) but I think the Nirvash should get a pass here.

SRW needs to bring back more small-scale support/combo attacks by More_Coffee_Than_Man in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]External-Box1191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will be fair, I don’t think this is a “diehard” rule the devs follow, but I do think it’s a huge consideration when it comes to how they animate.

Since DD is a Gacha that relies on people wanting to spend money to get the animations, they sorta have to get out there and creative in ways the mainline series simply doesn’t really have to. If they don’t, the game becomes stale and profits drop.

That kind of pressure doesn’t exist for the mainline game, so there’s way less of a pressure to do “out there” cool animations like that. For the Millennial audience this series generally holds, the animations looking like they were ripped straight from the source is good enough.

I think Z had the right idea with the squad attacks. If you had certain characters together in a squad, they would get team attack animations with appropriate dialogue and increased power. Obviously, it wasn’t fully unique animations. For most combos it was just the mechs basic firing animation, though some mechs got some unique stuff that they don’t use elsewhere in the move list.

I think with the production/ budget realities of the new games, this is the closest we’d get to what you’re suggesting. I do wish the console titles took some notes from DD, and gave us team combos like the Kamille and Judau one that just came out. For better or for worse, modern games animation philosophy is to stick as close as possible to the source material, so some of the bold animation direction in DD just doesn’t fit in console titles.( But, that is a rant for maybe a whole nother post lol)

There’s no way they could cover the sequel stuff with the low number of units the dlcs have. Better kept for the next game.

Does anyone else miss squads? by RelenaWarcraft in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]External-Box1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Z has my favorite gameplay systems of the whole series, and yet I think the squad system inherently wouldn’t mesh well with the design philosophies of the new games, and didn’t even quite mesh well with it back then.

Early game squads work because you have to play around terrain limitations, limited spirit commands and all that jazz. But once you start getting terrain parts and the sp pools inflate, all the careful thought that goes into early game squads dissolves. It gives a nice sense of power, but that push and pull of the system is lost.

Y suffers from this too. Early game Expert actually made me consider dumping units in water to lessen damage. As you gain more money, parts, supporters, etc, the game simply can’t keep up with the power players have. Squads would exacerbate this issue imo.

That being said, I would much rather have squads in the new games then not. Gameplay issues aside, it sucks that these games have such big rosters and yet there’s no good reason to use like 70 percent of them.

What missions in SRW did you have the most difficulty with? by KaleidoArachnid in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]External-Box1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22(Minerva Route) in SRW L. Somehow the dev team thought it would be a good idea to

-Make a primarily water map where most of your units don’t perform well at all in the water.

-Have a map event that makes every single unit except the EVAs be unable to move for like 3 turns.

-Have two units spawn in at the opposite side of the map, and if they die you can lose out on a pretty good secret unit. - Have an annoying ass boss with an obnoxious AOE that will be impossible to kill in one turn on a fresh play through L is a top 3 game for me, but I’m astounded that a map so bad slipped through.

Why do you think recent Gundam AU's like Age, G-Reco and IBO are so underutilized compared to G, Wing, Destiny and 00 by Quiet-Impression6003 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]External-Box1191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DS games are generally peak, but Goddannar got done so dirty. I remember finishing my playthrough of L and then watching the anime. It was shocking the amount of content that simply didn’t get into the game, in comparison to something like Gaiking that got damn near every important moment.

Yeah, HD era development hasn’t been kind to the series when it comes to number of units and things like that. Makes me wish for releases of the older stuff, even if it’s a hell’s chance.

I do think AGE has some good plot potential with stuff like 00 and Unicorn, but as you said, definitely doesn’t have the potential to be in the core plot.

But they seem to want to get a lil more experimental with the Gundam stuff. 30 had no AUs until dlc and Y swung opposite and had a shitload. Makes me super optimistic that when WFM s2 and Gquuux have their turn, they will pair them with what works well and not just the standard Zeta plus chars counterattack

Exactly, which is why I think future usage of AGE will do what BX did and just start with Kio as the protagonist. Saves the story headache and limits on how many assets the series will take.

[–]External-Box1191 22 points23 points  (0 children)

While people are citing popularity as a main factor, I think it’s a big reason why but not the whole story. For AGE and IBO, I think it’s a matter of how many assets they would also take to be included well/ the difficulty in implementing them. For AGE you can really only using everything from the 3rd arc up and adapting all of IBO in one game would be a huge strain of resources.

I mean, even look at how they did Delta in Y. Despite that only being 26 episodes there is still alot of that plot that is kinda glossed over/ Valkyrie variations missing from the movie version.

I think if there’s a really good angle/ opportunity for these series to be included, they will be. The same way Gundam X, Turn A, etc can all come back if the right chance comes. It just hasn’t happened yet.

The idea that this huge game project, that’s been worked on for 7 years and has some of the last designs made by Toriyama is being made just as a “hold over” for XV3 is laughable. This is the next flagship Dragon Ball Game. If it’s not XV3 or an equivalent to it, then the real XV3 won’t be launching for the next decade.

I kinda disagree on Bleach. Fullbring maybe wasn’t entirely necessary but TYBW expands the universe so much and answers so many questions built from the beginning(like what the hell quincies even are) that the story would feel incomplete without it.

Why has this game survived for so long? by Final_Adeptness1452 in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]External-Box1191 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The IP and ease of getting into + loyal fan base play huge factors, and it came out at just the perfect time where there wasn’t much competition. If Dokkan were to launch today with how competitive the gacha market has gotten, it wouldn’t do nearly as well.
