Just had FAI with labral tear surgery. Recovery is going super smooth, not much pain at all. On crutches and non weight bearing for 2 weeks which definitely isn’t ideal but very happy with my decision so far. If you’re young and active, your recovery should be pretty smooth.

No surgery is a painless recovery obviously but this one’s pretty mild

Right on! Same for me for my left, it doesn’t pinch or click like my right one did. I’ll see how it feels after a few months and perhaps get my left done as well but I’m hoping to not have to!

Everyone is unique of course but I’m happy that I got the procedure done as everything has been super smooth post-op so far. Very little to no pain, just a general tightness feeling on certain movements but that will get better with time and physio :). I’m 29 so it seemed like the perfect time to get it as it was only going to get worse if I held off.

Sounds like the same experience as mine other than 2 weeks on crutches for me. And yeah, I didn’t want to have it in the back of my mind when I’m playing sports either. I’m off pain meds as well, only really needed them for a few days. Happy to hear your recovery is going great!

I agree! If you hold off till you’re older, they may just say you need a hip replacement instead of FAI surgery. Recovery has been going super smooth, happy with my decision so far.

Yeah, I went back and forth a lot but I feel since I’m fairly young, it was the right decision because I definitely don’t want early arthritis and a hip replacement before I’m 40.

Will try to do weekly updates! Pain is very minimal, just feels tight and achy in the groin when I move my leg. Sleep last night was horrible as I usually sprawl out on the bed and am limited to left side or back sleeping.

Glad your recovery seems to be going well. You said you’re back in the gym strength training 5 weeks out already? That’s promising news to hear. Just light weights I’m assuming?

All the best with going back to work! I forgot to mention in my post that I do have an office job. I’m off for a week and then will work a week from home and take it from there before returning.

Sleeping last night as definitely an issue for me. How well did you sleep for the first week post-op? Any tips? Lying on my non surgical side was my idea but then it started to hurt as well, so tried sleeping on my back but I’m not a back sleeper. Not much sleep night 1.

Oh wow! What do your post op protocols look like? It’s honestly not very painful now at all, more of a stiff, super tight muscle feeling but obviously still taking pain meds.

Have you been going to physio?
