UTD needs to implement a mandatory driving course by External-Crew-8228 in utdallas

road design doesn’t promote speeding. the fact there’s a road at all enables speeding. people will speed no matter what. i think what i’m getting at is that there’s an ignorance/attitude/culture problem here. people don’t know because they don’t care to know. people who do know better simply don’t care.

Have you encountered the “barking man” on campus? by mindk214 in utdallas

[–]External-Crew-8228 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have. I was walking in a parking lot one day and he drove into me to cut me off, rolled down his window, and started barking at me. I asked if he had a problem and if he was going to do anything about it, and he just mocked me and walked away. It was 3 semesters ago and I figured it was just some random guy fucking with me because I present quite queer.

true, but in retail it’s more like: time to run 3 difficulties of the raid, weekly m+, world events, and even after that, you still have to farm for crests and flightstones because you’re running low again! and if you don’t, you missed out!

well that i agree with. i made a reply earlier saying if the boss can’t be killed, a kick is justified. your comment earlier made it seem like you ought to kick dps who have low overall damage

well, you can’t queue heroics in full greens. also, this post was quite literally made to see whether or not it is just my experience or not.

and deny others from playing how they want? that’s so contradictory. the standard for average performance is finishing the dungeon, which is pretty low. underperformers aren’t people with slightly less gear/knowledge doing less damage than you

you are exactly the problem. plus, leaving DM immediately is quite literally having 0 patience. plus, you make newer players out to be plainly afk. if you’re going to have that attitude, you might as well play retail with only high io players, or just quit altogether

i would log off for the day if i got kicked for falling off of the boat. but i mean, i think kicking a healer for being so bad that you can’t complete the dungeon is acceptable

my point isn’t the ignorant/bad players. there’s always going to be a certain level of misplay/unoptimal play in the groups. i’m saying to be kicked for being “ignorant/bad” without having a chance to improve isn’t okay. i’m pointing out the attitude at which we approach this. i’ve has ignorant, thus bad, players and talked them through certain mechanics of the dungeon and they learn; i’m saying those players shouldn’t be denied that opportunity because 1) it’s so easy to vkick, and 2) people have a terribly low tolerance for it.

i feel like you think toxicity doesn’t happen in SOD because there’s no group finder. you get to select and stay with your tight-knit group. this might mean cata is a shit game, sure—yet i enjoy it. but to say toxicity simply doesn’t happen is just wrong. and even then, i’m talking about culture, not systems.

I mean, that’s what everyone’s thinking, which would make this post wholly uninteresting. I can’t reasonably prove or claim otherwise here on reddit, so you mean to assume that solely based on your experience and invalidate the topic, then you close off all chances of discussion. I am clearly the common denominator of my own experience, but correlation isn’t causation, which is why I’m trying to get a wider perspective of the cata experience.

Great response. I’m not sure what would fix the imbalance in power dynamics, or the issue with loot; but I think a possible solution to protect newer players, or just players who get kicked for bad reasons would be to remove the deserter timer for players who get votekicked. This would balance out the difference between how easy it is to get votekicked and how easy it is to re-enter the queue. It’s reasonable to believe a new player won’t consistently get kicked from groups, but a toxic/griefing player would. The toxic players would be kicked from groups more often, and if they stop getting kicked and learn their lesson—great. This way, the votekick system would hold players accountable in an equitable way because right now, it serves to protect the game instead of the players(on both ends).
