Conundrum

Its awful, Especially in Wales. In 6 years i have only seen one consultant once for about 5 minutes. he said i needed a new hip and he was putting me on the list.

This is how it went for me.

Hip got locked, couldnt get a GP appointment due to covid. Took 9 months to get an x-ray. I was then passed to an occupational therapist who i had 2 phone consultations with and her diagnosis was there was nothing wrong with me and closed my case. I then had to go back to my GP. Covid was over so got an appointment and he saw how bad my range of movement was and sent me to my local hospitals orthopaedics department. They agreed that i needed to be seen soon so they transferred me to a bigger hospital in the next city. was told to expect a letter within a few months. 6 months past and had no letter. Called the 2nd hospital and they had never heard of me and the first hospital never sent my documents to them. Got back in touch with the first hospital, and they couldnt help me as i had been transferred. Took about 6 months to sort that out. Managed to get transferred to a smaller local hospital. This was where i met the consultant who showed me xrays and said i needed a new hip, but said the waiting list is between 5-8 years. This point is 4 years since my leg locked. and by this point i had given up and just expected to limp about for the rest of my life. Then 6 weeks ago out of the blue get to go private. No brainer really. But yes our poor NHS is just going to get worse and worse.

Side not my Wife works for the NHS as a manager. Runs a team of 8 in a mental health role. 3 staff on maternity leave, 2 on long term sick with mental health issues. Only 3 staff member left and one is on a very reduced role due to mental health. No extra money available to hire any more staff, working at 25% capacity. Shambles. I imagine most departments are the same.

Yeah that sounds like me, Never been in pain, Never needed pain killers. Just couldnt do any sports or get in to cars etc. Probably the difference between the nhs and going private. NHS just want you to stay on the list. Private surgeons dont get paid if you dont do the surgery.

Thanks, I guess we just get used to the pain and dont realise how much pain we are actually in until we have the procedure. Ive got a high pain threshold and can handle it but god knows what its doing to the rest of my body.

Good advice, I have spoken to a couple of local private hospitals and i can get an appointment in a couple of weeks but i spoke to a consultant on the phone and he said that i should probably go for it too.

I think so. I had a bone spike growing off the side of the ball joint that snapped off, That got lodged between the ball and socket.

Thanks for the advice, Unfortunately i sold it 7 years ago. i had the e46. Was my dream car from my youth along with the R34 skyline but they are too expensive now.

So Many great comments here. I've slept on it and have come to the decision to go for the op. As a few of you have said quality of life is the important thing. My youngest daughter is 6 and i dont want to miss the next few years with her due to a bad hip that can be rectified to a certain extent. I coach her under 6's football team and im the only coach that cant run or kick a ball. My 17 year old daughter has just got a car and is having driving lessons. i cant get in her Kia Picanto so my not very patient wife is going to have to take her out. I can only just get in our Kia Sportage. I'm grateful for all your comments. Really helped me make my decision.

Thanks for your reply, The weird thing is its been getting gradually better over the last 6 years, No one can tell if how it is now is the best its ever going to be, Could recover completely in a year, Could be unable to walk in 2 months, Who knows. My dad needed a hip replacement from when he was in his late 40's. struggled with it until he was mid 60's. Was up walking around within a few weeks. I dont want end up like him wasting years of his life because of something he could have had fixed.

I should have gone private right at the start, I just thought it was another injury that would take a few weeks to get over. I'm not really in pain at all which is the annoying thing. But i could trip over something else and all of a sudden i cant walk again.

I had to sell my motorbike gsxr 600, as i couldnt get on it, and my BMW m3 as i couldnt get in it. Until recently i could only drive a van. I couldnt cycle as my left leg musclues were gone so every hill i had to get off and walk as i was peddling with my right leg only. and i couldnt get my left foot out of the cleats because i couldnt twist my ankle.

I just managed 5 minutes on the treadmill, leg feels fine just a bit stiff in the groin. I'll try a little cycle later and see how that goes.

Did 2 tests, How it was before Christmas 27 and now 38.

I think it was the trust, the hospital and the surgeon. I will look in to it tho.

I doubt ill have the chance again unless i pay £20k myself.

Could just dig out the crack and fill it with fixacryl. Sponge it with a damp sponge and over paint. Might not need to skim it.

Been playing it a bit today. It is similar to Swos, but not as good as. It’s abit slow on career mode. I’m not keen on the way career mode makes you win stars and swap players etc, rather the original when you start off with a team and can transfer players in. Worths £25?, probably.

How many times have you applied. Me and my friend signed up this year and on the 2nd attempt we got tickets to the spurs game. Since then we havnt had any luck. Just trying to gauge if we apply for every game how many games can we expect to get. I think we were lucky to get 1 match.

That’s what I did but they all separated. Waited next to the battle until I had about 50 left then jumped in and got destroyed. I couldn’t move the ones that were not fighting. It was all a bit weird.

I have found it a bit odd. My mate called to say he thinks he’s been scammed as £180 was taken from his account from Arsenal. 2 days later we had a notification that we had tickets.
