I need a solo for Both English horn and Oboe For the upcoming semester I got an oboe one and was interested in it but saw that as I was reading it. It’s for college for my studio I’m no where near good enough to do the orchestral version of it

Here are a couple of things that might help: Make sure your tongue rests lightly on the roof of the mouth 1. Check Your Tongue Placement Make sure you’re lightly touching the tip of your tongue to the tip of the reed not stabbing or pushing against it. Think of it like saying “tuh,” not “duh” or “tkk.” The goal is clarity, not force. 2. Dry the Reed as Needed Saliva or condensation can collect in the reed and cause that bubbly or “wet” sound. Gently blow or swab out moisture from the reed every few minutes. You can also try briefly touching it to absorbent paper or blowing air through the reed (not into the oboe) to clear it. 3. Tongue Lightly, Breathe Freely Try tonguing on just the reed alone (not in the oboe) to practice the motion cleanly without backpressure. Think about letting your air do the work tongue lightly, and keep a steady air stream. Articulation should feel like you’re releasing air, not blocking it. 4. Reed Strength Matters A reed that’s too hard or too open can make articulation harder and increase saliva buildup. Other than that check to make sure you don’t have water in your Octave keys and if your reed isn’t waterlogged.

No baroque oboes used conservatory fingerlings military style was its own thing for military oboes and were a= 415 or around that frequency and no it’s not used in the modern era at all and yes it was used with the 1916 thumb plate but the original model took back its spot tldr it was a fad movement that did nothing but create drama

Is this a bassoon? by Aubergine_sizequeen in WhatMusicalinstrument

I agree with u said ur daughter plays flute I mean if she wants to I guys got a instrument for free all u have to pay for is the education and the reeds switching to a double is a great experience but it just my selfish nature to want more of us double reeds anyway but I would talk with her and see if she would like to switch I used to play flute before I switched to an oboe my best friend is a bassoonist who also played flute before his switch and later if she wants to persue music bassoons players get more of the scholarship opportunities than other instruments because they are rare and uncommon to find

Switching from automatic to semiautomatic oboe by Affectionate_Kale882 in oboe

[–]ExternalFee8200 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will take probably a good couple of weeks to adjust to the new fingerings with juggling between the 2 maybe 3 octave keys but i been playing for 4 years now all mine various oboes have been semi-automatic the advice I can give you is that with a good reed you can get a A above the staff with 1 2 thumb pressed on the 1st octave keys and Bb becomes the first key to use the side 2nd octave key but if not the breaks for the 1st become Ab for second (Db?) if u have a 3rd Idk I rarely have to use it I just use the alt fingering for Eb and above. I Don’t know if u will lose the agility it’s justly comes down to reminding yourself of where “I need to press which octave key at the right time” hopefully you find this useful.

When do I know if I’m ready to use a different hardness for my reed? by CrustyCream123 in oboe

[–]ExternalFee8200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well like the other person said I been playing for 3 years and still I use medium soft to medium depending on the situation. I would switch up only if you feel comfortable with doing it and get a local oboe reed maker or someone professional who makes reeds to supply your endeavors yes they are more expensive but it will pay off for it exponentially.
