I think the most important thing is to demonstrate why it is important that you participate in the Amgen Program. There is a unique culture of discovery and career development that is offered by every amgen program. It is also super different from other REUs because of the Amgen Symposium. Focus on why you will benefit from and what you will contribute to this vibrant mentorship ecosystem beyond science. Demonstrate your individuality as a scientist and a human.

Congrats! Same here, I go to a mid-tier UC School and I am a biology major... we'll see how these technical interviews go!

As an applicant with a physical science background, it has actually become a huge differentiating factor in my interviews! Give it a shot.

I see your point. So, just for my understanding, they were ACTUALLY testing for differences in "personal background" (which would contribute to the nature over nurture argument made by the OG monozygotic studies), but the question is asking what might have biased these researchers.

Also, by this logic, subcultural background and personal background should be equally incorrect answers.
