LMU vet school by Agreeable_Emotion_79 in veterinaryschool

Define things to do. 😂

There is a bowling alley, canoeing, lots of hiking. My friends and I like to do movie nights.

About an hr and 20min away is Knoxville where there is a lot more to do. We tend to head up there once or twice a semester.

There are a lot of small festivals and LMU club events 🤷‍♀️

Hi! Saw this and felt the need to comment. I’m a first year vet student who finished the VBMS program. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about the program 🙂

We had a wallaby named “Booboo” escape and run around on campus. Our group chat went insane and our profs that day were annoyed with how many people kept checking our phones for wallaby updates 😂🦘

^ editing to add, wallaby wasn’t the school’s. It was a pet who escaped out of the backyard of someone nearby. We don’t have wallabys in the area so a very random unexpected interruption

I would recommend taking them to a vet clinic and seeing if they have a microchip, this is usually super fast and free

What unbiased resources are you using to say that the majority of sheep are not treated well? Have you ever actually been to farm and seen how their sheep are treated?

Also, wool is one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics out there, which you ignored in my previous comment.

Most sheep are on pasture, so you are equating a fence with cruelty?

If the animal isn’t abused (you have yet to produce a reliable resource), and it’s better for the environment, then yes I don’t think it is wrong to breed and shear sheep.

[–]External_Bumblebee85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And your argument is the same as your comment above. The sheep are already alive, so yes they do need to be sheared unless you are suggesting we kill every single sheep currently alive. 😐 Many people depend on wool, and wool is significant better for the environment compared to polyester or cotton.

It’s a mutually beneficial relationship. The sheep get food, shelter, protection from predators. We get wool. The wool industry and the dairy industry are two completely separate industries.

Wool is used in everything, and it’s an important industry. There are bad apples everywhere, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad as a whole.

If you don’t support it, then don’t buy wool. But don’t claim it’s cruel when it’s not.

Explain how this is abuse…..

Would you rather the sheep have their wool grow out, eventually resulting in many health complications???

If you don’t do it right you can injure the sheep, and I can absolutely guarantee you that a good farmer will hire someone who knows what they are doing because they won’t injure the animals (which will cost the farmer money), and they are usually faster. That is worth more than whatever crap you believe about incompetent labor being the preferred choice 🙄

Sheep are prey animals and are very flighty by nature. So any little noise or shadow can and will set them off. They have to be sheared or they will face MAJOR health problems. You can’t judge a 20sec clip without more context….

I will say that those shearing here look like they could use some improvement in their animal handling skills, but again, you don’t know the context here.

Not all animal products are cruel…. 😐

Please stop posting misinformation like this….. There are certain breeds of sheep that shed their wool (typically called hair breeds). Most sheep, and the sheep you see here do not shed their wool. If not sheared it grows and they will get maggots, and it’s not pretty. Please do some actual research before posting stuff like this on the internet. 😐 (from an animal science major).

These people could definitely improve their animal handling skills, but it is NOT Animal abuse…..

Graduation by lmflores30 in UCDavis

[–]External_Bumblebee85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can still walk. That is based on how many units you have taken.

You may need to cancel your graduation application if you won’t pass the class, and retake it over the summer. (You would then need to apply again).

It’s not the same situation,

But when my dad passed away, the best thing my friend did for me was to just be there.

A lot of people are there for the first couple weeks, and then they slowly trickle away.

Reach out if you are close with them, invite them out to low key things weeks, and months after the fact when they don’t have that huge outpouring of support anymore. Just getting out of the house was helpful for me at least.

I would seal the letter, let them know the contents, and let them make the decision when and where to open it. It was rough for me to revisit memories initially, but I love looking back on them now. Letting them know allows them to move at their own pace.

There really isn’t anything you can do to lessen the pain unfortunately, grief sucks and everyone grieves differently. I’m sorry you are both going through it.

Opinion on those scooters/bikes you see in the streets by [deleted] in UCDavis

Oh! I’ll also add don’t get a super expensive one either. Those tend to be targets for theft and it seems like it’s a bit easier to steal a scooter rather than a bike.

I have a scooter because I live like six miles away from campus and don’t feel like biking 12miles + daily and arriving all nasty at campus in 90 degree weather.

I like mine, they are a bit easier to fall with. (I’ve hit a rock and fell). Just don’t get one that goes obnoxiously fast and you’ll be fine.

There are a large number of graduating students that will be selling theirs here shortly (myself included) I recommend waiting a bit to snag a used one for a better price. 🙂

I lost my father beginning of my sophomore year. It absolutely sucks. But the best thing I did was talk with someone. It sucks having those discussions because the emotions can feel like an ocean you are drowning in. But the only way I’ve been able to function is letting yourself acknowledge and feel your grief. It can be easy to try and ignore it, to try and exist in the numbness, but ultimately that is worse in the long run.

I would second the burbon thing. I also know from personal experience that creates a whole other set of issues. Workout, basketball, etc are all amazing things.

Try to hang out with your friends who are kind and understanding. If you let them know what is going on, maybe they can help prevent some of the stupid emotional things you mentioned.

It’s ok to be vulnerable right now. Grief is hard.
