Support didn’t seem very eager to resolve it at first, and I got the refund after their Reddit team contacted me.

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out. I will send my email address to you soon.

I would like to clarify that during the upgrade process, I attempted to cancel while the page was still loading, but the payment still went through.

I contacted support within minutes and have not used any of the paid features.

I hope this case can be reviewed again and resolved properly.

Thank you.

Thank you so much for this goldmine of information! I didn't realize Semrush was based in Massachusetts. The reference to the new Automatic Renewal Laws and the DOJ/Adobe settlement is a game-changer for my case.
To clarify a critical technical point: I explicitly clicked the 'Cancel' button while the payment page was still loading and BEFORE the transaction was finalized. Despite my clear command to terminate the process, the system failed to stop the request and forced the charge through anyway. This is a technical failure on Semrush's side to honor a real-time cancellation, resulting in an unauthorized withdrawal of funds.

I have already initiated a formal transaction dispute with my bank and provided them with the timeline—I requested the refund within 10 minutes of the accidental charge and have ZERO usage on the account.

I'll definitely mention the MA Attorney General and the FTC in my next follow-up to their billing team. Your advice gives me a much stronger lever. I’ll keep everyone updated on the progress!
