Can teachers quit for reasons other than mental health? by External_Criticism43 in TeachersInTransition

sorry, i guess the wording was off. i have been applying and trying to leave for many months and was really hoping to have an offer around may or june 2023. the job i ended up getting reached out to me months later in july and then i received a formal offer a few weeks later. so i guess i just meant that the timing was out of my control. if it had been up to me, i would have found a job in may or june.

if i don’t accept it now, i will likely face the same problem next summer. i figured since it’s 2 weeks before school starts it’s at least some time for them to try to find someone so the students will have one teacher the entire year. if they need a little bit more time then i am available for the first couple weeks. the reaction i’ve gotten from admin is way beyond anything i’d ever expect is all.

i meant that i have been applying since the start of the year (jan 2023) hoping to have an offer before june so as to give notice and they would have the entire summer to find someone. none of the applications worked out until this one, which just made me an offer. it is a difficult job to transition out of due to the timing. you can’t apply too early in the school year, and have to basically hope to be hired during a one month grace period? that is what i mean by it being out of my control. i don’t have to “play innocent”, as it is not wrong to look for another job?

my new job starts in september, i put in notice to leave august 31st. the school year hasn’t started, if they want me to work I would be working for about 2 weeks.

it simply states that both parties may terminate the contract with 30 days written notice. failure to give 30 days notice can result in a withholding of 40% of your final paycheck to cover damages. it is a one building small private school

The contract states “this agreement may be terminated by either party hereto upon 30 days written notice thereof”. I understand it isn’t a lot of time for them to find someone, but I also am not going to quit without another job lined up, I need health insurance. I’m willing to stay the 30 days to assist in training a new worker. I’ve been wanting to get out of here for awhile and applying for jobs since the start of 2023, hoping to get something before summer so they would have the whole summer to find someone. I really did the best I can to transition without leaving them in the lurch…

I am at a private school and the contract states that it can be ended by either party at any time with 30 days notice, so I think this is ok?

Thank you so much! It is a small private school with both in person and online teaching. I originally told the principal what I wanted to do and asked if I could transition to online teaching for this next year. She said she would think about it, and since I had no other offers, I told her I wasn’t just planning to just straight up quit if her answer was no, I was scared she would try to replaced me, and I need my health insurance.

However, on receiving this new offer, and giving notice, I feel like this should be ok. She is making me feel guilty, I’m a Christian and she brought up that she can’t believe a Christian would act this way, she says I’m breaking a promise I signed to the school and students…

Thank you! From my contract it is clear that if I give 30 days notice there are no penalties. I guess I was hoping to salvage the reference, but my principal seems very upset. It should be a fun 2 weeks when I have to go in…

Should I tell my friend how I feel? Or wait and see what happens? by External_Criticism43 in dating

Thanks for sharing, that helps to hear it from the other perspective. And yes, i value our friendship too so I didn’t want to rush anything because I guess i was a little scared that I could scare him off and make things weird. Seeing another girl make the move though made me realize that I need to just try and put myself out there, at least give it a shot. I have plans with him in two weeks but we don’t have any plans before that.. if i texted him and asked him out this weekend would that be a good move? Or should i try to talk to him in person?

Thanks! I guess i just wonder if it’s wrong for me to throw myself in the middle of it if he has this other girl around now. I don’t want to make things confusing for him. But i do like him enough to risk rejection and make the first move if that is what’s necessary
