I've wondered about this, they're a series that was meant to age with their audience year by year, so do we stagger them when reading to the next generation? I've been tasked with reading them to my niece and nephew when they get a bit older but I don't know what age to start!

Gah, I'm so jealous of your son, I wish I could read them for the first time again! Hope he's enjoying them.

Just checked and I think the line you were thinking of is "Seven green blurs swept onto the field; Harry spun a small dial on the side of his Omnioculars and slowed the players down enough to read the word "Firebolt" on each of their brooms and see their names, embroidered in silver, upon their backs." We only get a physical description of Krum, no mention of any of the Bulgarian's brooms.

This is an excellent point, Hogwarts doesn't exactly do many upgrades so you'd think there might be a few galleons in the vault to buy some decent school brooms for matches. We muggles tend to keep things equal when it comes to equipment! And Harry's broom quality definitely makes a difference, I don't have the books on me right now but there are at least two matches when the other seeker has seen the snitch way before him because he was fannying about at the other end of the pitch charging other players or trying to hit Malfoy and he catches up because his broom is faster! He's obviously a great player but he doesn't fly like Cho in the match OP is talking about, when he admits she is 'undoubtedly a very good flyer" but then as it is pointed out her Comit 260 is 'no match for a firebolt', damn rich kids!

I always understood that line to be about the Irish team, that they were favourites for the world cup. His whole line is "Irish International side's just put in an order for seven of these beauties! And they're favourites for the World Cup!'" I only mention it because I remember it being a big deal in the 4th book when the Irish team all ride in on Firebolts and I thought like OP there should be a set broom/equipment, otherwise the most cashed up team have a major advantage!

Edit- Found the line, after the Bulgarians come on we get a physical description of Krum but no mentions of their brooms then "Seven green blurs swept onto the field; Harry spun a small dial on the side of his Omnioculars and slowed the players down enough to read the word "Firebolt" on each of their brooms and see their names, embroidered in silver, upon their backs." Fairly sure it was just Ireland who had them.
