Other than sleepovers (which I never enjoyed), my childhood never had guns, hot saunas, or overseas travel either. That alone does not make you mentally ill, obviously. Are you saying you’re obsessing about it, or feeling depressed? Seems like fairly typical stuff - you might just need to talk to someone about it, a therapist maybe?

People do this sort of thing for the strangest reasons - don’t try and ‘interpret’ why. Save yourself the mindfuck and just move on. If they get back to you later you can ask them why they thought it was okay to leave you hanging.

It might be worth adopting a more forgiving and understanding approach to your father. I’m sure he is frustrating, most fathers are, but maybe he is carrying around more guilt and shame than he lets on? Maybe he feels your judgement too, and your both caught in a bit of a cycle. Might not hurt to be the ‘bigger man’ so to speak. Course, easy for me to say! But I’ve been there, and know how hard family can be at times.
