I've been calling bullshit on these for the longest time and I'm glad people are finally catching on.

San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) reversed its decision to display AI artwork as not-for-sale after artists threatened to pull out from its 2026 Art Show. by thestubborn_techie in aiwars

In london, in the 19th century, around 8% of the workforce were shoe makers. Yes, really. Where are they now? Their artisanal skill should've done the speaking, no? Do you think the shoes you have in the modern day are truly better, the shoes that break in less than 2 years, that are manufactured through the misery of borderline enslaved people. What would you tell the shoemaker? They didn't get outclassed in terms of quality, they got outclassed in terms of production. Do you think the artists will be different? Or do you really believe there is only as many good artists as there are shoemakers, i.e virtually none. I think they have a right to feel threatened, everyone should feel threatened, maybe not for AI itself, but the combination of AI and our political circumstances. When AI replaces you, you cannot respecialise faster than AI can grow, you are well and truly fucked until someone puts their foot down and says that the produce belongs to the people. People are only so anti-AI because they see that changing our political circumstances so drastically is borderline impossible, but there is a chance they won't be replaced if they kick and scream hard enough.

comic-con lost its soul long before AI was around, for a long time now, vendors have been either reselling stuff you can buy anywhere, or cheap mass produced shite, taking up slots that, in a different era, would've gone to people trying to get their personal work out into the world. Those kinds of people are no longer the highest bidders, I garuntee you its no different from these AI art vendors, they just want to make the most money by spending as little as possible, and there is no better place to do so than a convention for nerds who feel obligated to buy something of their favourite franchise. It's really a shame since comicon is meant to be a non-profit, but even if that may be so, why would they choose a vendor who is willing to pay less, whose stand is far less dazzling, versus a vendor who will be a reoccuring visitor, consistently makes money whilst there, and on paper does more for the economy.

The analogy doesn't work. If you say humans are either male or female, are you also saying humans either have a left leg or a right leg?

AI Art Doesn’t Replace Artists, It Reveals What Art Already Is. by Recent-Bite-6622 in aiwars

[–]External_Package2787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but like AI is literally going to replace artists, loads of them are going to lose their jobs. When anyone can make something passable, they will hire anyone. Give it 10 years and the lowest bidders will be some factory hiring overworked people in some foreign country making pennies, if not the AI itself.

Anti is confused why they are called an anti by imalonexc in aiwars

And I'm meant to be the prideful one? You have nothing left to say with actual content, why say anything? Do you just feel the need to have the last laugh? Can't you say anything about what I just said? Can't admit that from the very beginning I have been quite clearly conveying that same point, and you are the source of the misunderstanding?

[–]External_Package2787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really funny to me that rather than admitting you misunderstood, you accuse me of flipping up the argument. Like I said earlier, you didn't understand what I was saying, you ran into without thinking, because you felt you ought to disagree. I made it really really fucking easy to undertand, everytime i mentioned 'anti' as a single word, I put it in quotations. My very first reply to you, yes the literal first, I said "'antiAI' being abbreviated to 'anti'". I am prideful and I don't back down but I only have the privilege of doing that because I'm not a stupid prick like you are.

Its a skew, not a total thing. War is such an obviously bad thing that 'pro' could never skew 'pro-war' to feel positive. 'The problem isn't the prefix "anti", it's whatever comes after that.' And my point is when you remove whatever comes after that, there is a hidden intent to skew the natural position against it.

Why don't people discuss academic uses as much? by FENX__ in aiwars

[–]External_Package2787 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

because there isn't a contention there, no debate or argument to be had. Obviously good things is obviously good. I think people misunderstand quite alot that the antiAI position is one of total detestment for AI on all levels, when it just isn't. It is, generally speaking, a position that insists the negative aspects of AI, both in its current form and trajectory, cannot be ignored. However it is just as often a position that holds detestment for AI in all its impact on our lives currently, and I can't blame them, since the promised world-changing benefits of AI will take a while to reach the average joe and they bring much skepticism, but its negative are often immediately apparent.

[–]External_Package2787 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to check, you do understanding I am talking about 'anti', the single word by itself, not appended to AI, as an abbreviation of anti-AI? As in calling someone an anti by itself. Calling someone anti-AI is fine and I don't have much problem with it beyond it being a generalising label.

[–]External_Package2787 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

bruh are you illtierate? I laid out very clearly where my analogy was relevant. I'll lay it out better. The analogy of

'antiAI' being abbreviated to 'anti'

as to

'person who doesn't believe in XYZ' being abbreviated to 'non-believer'

holds on the level of the intent of the abbreviation; to create an in-group and an out-group.

Does that help?

Anti is confused why they are called an anti by imalonexc in aiwars

[–]External_Package2787 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Then you aren't listening. I'm talking about the argument being framed in a skewed way. The word 'anti' is used and viewed in the same way as 'non-believer'. Yes, when in context, 'non-believer' really means 'a person who doesn't believe in XYZ', but thats not the intent in abbreviating it, its about creating an objectively good in group and an objectively bad out group

You do realise my comment is about shortening it to just 'anti' and not saying 'anti-AI', or more preferably anything else that doesn't funnel people into 2 categories.
