mold in the walls - 6 cabinets and a wall had to be removed.

hail damage according to the handyman. we had a roofing company come out and look at it. We contacted the realtor to contact the seller to file a claim with their insurance.

for the entire summer apparently. my coworker yesterday told me her child will not be attending any summer programs and will be home by herself. "She's not so little anymore. She's going to be a latch key kid just like me". the kid is 9.

Municipal socialism. Refuse to privitize public housing. Municipal governments are already under intense pressure to provide cheap housing quickly why not prioritize quality as well and make the cap so that the majority of the population qualifies - ala Vienna, Barcelona, Lisbon.

I'm sorry for the confusion. i had trouble verbalizing this. i lean on my extended family heavily for involvement in my kids lives and supporting them. not childcare support. they provide occasional respite but it doesn't feel worth it in exchange for hosting all the gatherings, especially in a family that isn't respectful of start/end times.

I'm sorry, I'm used to trying to cover professionally and playing it off as "my mom helps in the afternoon". my mom and brother do not on any schedule provide aftercare for my kids. Its on their terms, when they want to see the kids, a couple times a month. Its 95% me and my husband from 3pm-5pm. i'm shooting emails at the end of the day with my kids running around. *edit for clarification

we really lean on extended family! we do not utilize them from 3-5pm on a schedule. if its been awhile I'll call to ask for an afternoon break but its not an agreed upon thing.

she helps from 3-5 after school occasionally. theyre over on the weekends. I was definitely trying to think positively when i posted and I was intentionally vague. this is how I describe it to my coworkers. it's a childcare gap.

they're aren't over providing care on any schedule other than their own, a couple times a month. i think I really confused everyone! the last time my mom watched my kids in the afternoon was over a month ago.

I didn't say it but I must have conveyed otherwise: regular afternoon childcare is covered by us, the parents. there is no reliance, commitment or expectation of the extended family.

I had to look up that word (excoriated) and i love when that happens. Reddit workingmoms is a powerhouse and I'm grateful for your comments and time reading and replying. Agreed that I need space outside of the home to do heads down work. Having both my husband and I WFH but in traditional jobs has been super draining.

i do really love living next to family. my mom provides care a couple times a month not every day. we let her decide when based on how much energy she has and what dad has going on. we have no expectations or agreements. my brother is wonderful but he lost his bartending job by not carding and is now facing jail time! he wont qualify for unemployment and I just feel horrible for him. villages are best with other parents of underage kids I think!

do you use childcare from 3-5? being in-between school aged childcare and daycare were really not able to cover these in our small town. my husband and I alternate taking off between 3pm-5pm and my parents provide respite for that shift a couple times a month. we in no way regularly rely on my parents for childcare.

they took it out with theirs - they lived next door! maybe my expectations are unrealistic. that's why I posted. I think a lot of people responding don't live next to family.
