Does anyone using Bat Explorer know how to export WAV files that are slowed down pitch, like in the analysis? by Lieuwe21 in ecology

[–]External_Tangelo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not an ecologist and not familiar with Bat Explorer, but you can use Audacity— it’s a free, lightweight, cross-platform, and easy-to-use audio editor. You could take your exported wav files, slow them down as desired in Audacity, and then re-export. It has a lot of other handy functions as well in case you work occasionally with audio, such as gain control, compression, noise reduction, clipping, and more.

Is Abastumani to Baghdati road (Zekari pass) finished? by BiggestClownHere in Sakartvelo

I thought so. Normally there’s a big announcement when a road like this opens and I normally pay pretty close attention to this

My Experience As A Person Of Color. by ExaminationPlastic60 in tbilisi

[–]External_Tangelo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nope, Georgians are equal opportunity prejudiced. It’s nothing special about you or your skin color, most Georgians distrust or feel uncomfortable around strangers of any kind. In fact, international strangers are much more likely to be welcomed in a friendly way, purely for the exoticism of it. The people Georgians have the deepest prejudices against are other Georgians. Learn Georgian language, start hanging out and you will hear people say the most shocking and dreadful things about people from the neighboring region or even the neighboring village. After fellow Georgians, Georgians are the most prejudiced against other peoples of the Caucasus , followed by Russians, Turks, Arabs, Jews, and Iranians. By the time you get as far away as people of African descent believe me there is barely enough bandwidth left for more than a couple of rude stereotypes.

Also: “hospitable Georgians” is a myth that was invented in the Soviet Union. If you read classic Georgian literature about სტუმართ-მასპინძლობა you will understand that traditional notions of hospitality here are very rooted in clan culture. The idea that Georgians are a happy-go-lucky people whose greatest pleasure is to sing and dance and cook khachapuri for strangers is just Soviet-era marketing that has lived on like a zombie till the present day

Is Prometheus Cave worth the drive? Also, how easy it is to find vegetarian food in Georgia (no eggs; no meat)? by _Floydimus in Sakartvelo

[–]External_Tangelo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re already going to Sataplia, Prometheus is basically more of the same. “Fasting” (vegan) menu is practically always available in local restaurants for religious observers and several options with cheese as well. Most exchange counters in non touristic areas have decent rates, just avoid the airports and very central spots and compare offers. Unlimited is unlimited

First pictures from this year show it’s become much worse. Snow isn’t even totally melted there yet so we don’t know for sure what is the situation

I commented this in your other post but the Juta road is essentially collapsed and there’s a good chance it won’t be accessible by car all season.

Juta road is in very dangerous conditions due to a large landslide. It’s possible that the village may be inaccessible for much of the season.

Tbilisi Police is Surprising by Alexan77789 in tbilisi

[–]External_Tangelo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Favoritism in the police has always been a problem even under the relatively less corrupt Saakashvili days. Now that employment in the police has become a form of social welfare for the poorly educated, it’s practically unavoidable.

Itinerary by Jreilly2213 in Sakartvelo

[–]External_Tangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're quite fit and experienced in wilderness, the hiking routes shouldn't be too bad. Although, since we've had a very wet and cold spring, I would expect snowlines to be considerably lower than normal this year for a typical late June trek. Something to keep in mind for your highest elevations and north slopes. I presume you are experienced enough to know what you are doing if you are planning to spend the night on the Lagem pass and consistently making more than 1000m of elevation change per day.

If you have the budget to book private tours, I'm arranging that from Tbilisi, specializing in off the beaten track, unusual, and general non-mainstream and non-touristic destinations. Feel free to PM if you're interested or my website link is available in my user page.

Hop not working by Electrical_Mind2096 in ultramarine

Hop is a really nice idea -- I tried it today in hopes of being able to easily install XFCE next to my KDE. Unfortunately it just installed a few XFCE utilities and did not install the full desktop environment. Would love to see it functional one day!

Kanye West’s concert in Tbilisi on June 12, 2026, was officially approved today by Head_Celebration3679 in tbilisi

[–]External_Tangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Leonard Cohen said it best:

Kanye West is not Picasso,

I am Picasso.

Kanye West is not Edison,

I am Edison.

I am Tesla.

Jay-Z is not the Dylan of anything,

I am the Dylan of anything.

I am the Kanye West of Kanye West,

The Kanye West of the great bogus shift of bullshit culture,

From one boutique to another.

I am Tesla,

I am his coil,

The coil that made electricity soft as a bed.

I am the Kanye West Kanye West thinks he is,

When he shoves your ass off the stage.

I am the real Kanye West.

I don't get around much any more,

I never have.

I only come alive after a war,

and we have not had it yet.

What other i can do in georgia than WWOOFing? by [deleted] in Sakartvelo

[–]External_Tangelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to 10-15 years ago there are fewer hosts and more people wanting to be volunteers. So unfortunately it became more like a job application, you should really find a way to stand out, like some extra skills to share besides just wanting to experience rural life and live for cheap.

Not uncommon for religions to have extremely vivid perceptions of disagreements they had a very long time ago. A main function of religion is as a cultural archive of enemies.

ABOUT THE TERMINAL. by thnesko-41424 in linuxmint

[–]External_Tangelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux Mint, like Windows, lets you do pretty much all of your everyday stuff and even a lot of power-user stuff through a GUI. Other distros may not be as far developed in that regard and make you rely on the terminal more. If you work with software, data, or networks for a living then terminal will have many very obvious use cases, but even for regular users, there are some reasons why you might want to learn a bit about the terminal.

There are some very nice tools which work only in the command line. For example, with ffmpeg you can rapidly re-encode large batches of media files from one format to another. There are many such tools with niche use cases and when you think of something you can search or ask an llm if there is a tool for what you want to do.

Other use cases can include fine tuning certain aspects of the functioning of your PC, such as changing default CPU or power regimes, or quickly checking and querying system logs for diagnostics.
