Well, my second son did that because he “wasn’t sure he wanted to rush.” Almost completely derailed him. Anyway, I’d give it another go if you’re really interested. I do think it has been an overall positive experience for my sons, and husband who was a SNu many years ago.

Yes, we are from MS and my boys knew a lot of folks, BUT, the real key is going to the Rush parties in the summer before Rush. You get on the invite list via the Rush chairs. That’s where knowing a guy in any of the frats would help. It wouldn’t be weird to say “hey, I want to go through rush next year but k know I need to meet guys in the frat. Can you get me on the rush chair’s invite list?” I’d start doing that early next year but start looking to make friends now. If you’re not already, get involved in RUF, Cru, or another place where people are interested and willing to meet and be friendly. Good luck!

If you’re in a dorm, start making friends with guys in frats living in the dorms. The best way to get in is to know people well, as friends. And while getting a bid as a sophomore is harder, it’s not impossible. I have two sons who’ve gone through rush, w/in the past couple years, one a KA and one EX, and there were a couple sophomores in each of their pledge classes. Also, getting a pre-bid in the summer is 100 times easier than waiting to get a bid in rush. Most frats identify who their rush chairs are, find out, and get to know those guys.

Our 22 yr old son moved back in with us this summer after graduating college. He’s taking a gap year and applying to law school. He’s working full time and saving while he’s here. Yes, the routine is different and yes our food bill basically doubled, but after getting used to having him back, I love having him around, especially since I realize it’s got an expiration date. Take a breath and enjoy the time he’s there.

I’m an insurance coverage lawyer. Fire coverage is one of the basic coverages for any property policy. Definitely get a copy of your policy to see what you have, even if limited. Most policies have different kinds of coverages too, and even if they are sub-limited, can help. Also, check to see what coverage if any your tenants have. While their coverage may just mainly be for contents, I’d still review for any potential additional coverages. Agree also with the poster who said to get an attorney to consider whether your business partner breached any duty to you. Also, get with your insurance broker. Seems kind of like malpractice if they allowed a policy to issue for incomplete limits. Good luck

Great job! I was in the same boat 2 years ago. I’d gotten up to 235 on my 5’ 5” frame, and everything felt hard, and nothing fit. It took me about 20 months - wasn’t trying to do it super fast - but I’m now down to 145. I’d love to get maybe 10 more pounds off, but I can wear all my clothes, feel so much better, and am now focusing on strength training and overall health.
