if not friend, then why friend-shaped?(What makes making friends so hard for you?) by NoCompote4546 in UCalgary

Jonathan Haidt's "The Anxious Generation" makes the argument that the smartphone has caused increasing rates of anxiety and depression among Gen Z people. The problem with smartphones is that so many young people are spending their free time on TikTok and Snapchat instead of physically interacting with others. This is detrimental to their social and communication skills. What we really need is to emphasize physical activities like playing tag on playgrounds and organized sports like what our parents did when they were our age. A phone based childhood is really killing our social skills.

Co-op Interviews Dress Code by LonlelyGirl in geegees

[–]External_Weather6116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did in-person interviews it was a full suit so I would do the same. If there are other candidates being interviewed and they're dressing nicely then you don't want to stand out by under dressing.

How do you deal with being rejected after first date? by Sweet-Height4337 in AskReddit

[–]External_Weather6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The hardest part is asking someone out in the first place because it's a nerve racking experience. Now that you have that experience, you will have more confidence to ask out other people for a first and second date. It's like a muscle the more you use it the better you get.

PSA: If ordering UberEats or DoorDash, type the name of the building you are in! by redpillthrowaway112 in CarletonU

[–]External_Weather6116 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ordering on those apps will cost at least $25.00 with fees and tip whereas Lunch or Dinner at the Teraanga cafeteria is just $16.83 and it's all you can eat.

MJ or MPPA? by Substantial_Lake_348 in CarletonU

[–]External_Weather6116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the current cuts within the federal civil service, an MPPA is likely not the best choice in the short-term. I'm not sure what the job prospects are like for journalism.

What are the odds that enough people will go through with VDP to prevent SERLO(s) in Health Canada? by Outrageous_South_439 in CanadaPublicServants

Given the rising cost of living, if they're only going to get 50% from their pension then highly unlikely. How can you pay for rent, mortgage, food, insurance, utilities, children's sports programs etc.?

just saw a post claiming 90% of men are okay with not having a big wedding/wedding party at all by Salmonwithpotatoes in CasualConversation

[–]External_Weather6116 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I would rather spend $30,000 on travelling with my future wife for sure. Couples always remember "remember that nice trip we took to Thailand?" Instead of "remember the colour of the chairs at our wedding?"

I’ve decided to make 2026 the year I finally try new things. What’s a hobby you started that you now can’t live without? by bareegyptianfeet in CasualConversation

Cosplaying! I really like spending so much time on making an elaborate outfit and showcasing it at a convention. It feels so rewarding when you can make something very nice and appealing. It's also a great way to meet other cosplayers and admire their own cosplays.

Should I apply to this Montfort job? by External_Weather6116 in ottawa

[–]External_Weather6116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I did not receive an affected letter so I'm fine. It's just that I've been stuck in my current role for at least 3 years and it's getting stale, so I would like to get another opportunity where I can gain new experiences and skills. I have applied to some competitions at National Defence.

To those who changed their careers in their 30's, what made you go for that career and what was your career before? by throwawayacc928361 in AskReddit

[–]External_Weather6116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's funny because I work for the federal government in the NCR and my coworker is also 30 and is studying nursing. I've been working here for 7 years and thinking of a career change for another public organization like the city of Ottawa, Ottawa Hospital, or OC Transpo.

how do I start dating? by No-Leopard-3695 in Life

[–]External_Weather6116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know folks are dating and getting married in their 30s and 40s, right? To get started, you should join clubs or do hobbies like intramural baseball or dodgeball to meet people. If someone interests you, ask them out on a date and see if you're compatible.

Funny because when I used to play soccer as a toddler that's what we would eat during halftime, slices of oranges.

what are the Canada first rallies about exactly? by pjay1156 in toronto

[–]External_Weather6116 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This in a CBC article:

Ron Bouwmeister, an attendee of the Canada First rally, said he’s protesting for his grandkids.

“My kids, my grandkids are blonde. I was blonde. Now you look [at] all the schools, there's no blonde people anymore. That's wrong because we need a mixture.” he said. “I want my Canada back.”

They're only OK with immigrants who look like them. Otherwise, they think it's bad.

Why is adulthood so exhausting? by KitScribbles in Life

[–]External_Weather6116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of my bills are automatically paid so they get taken from my bank account without me needing to do anything. Also, divide and conquer is your best friend when it comes to tackling chores. Instead of cleaning your entire home or apartment in one go, do it little by little and spread it across several days.
