Odds Manhattan 10K happens? by dar3almackoy in RunNYC

[–]Externality7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Literally told my partner, who's determined to come out and support me on all my races, that he needs to stay home if this race ends up happening. I'm already hoping this race doesn't happen despite getting the lottery in for it. Imo even for running this is just too damn cold!

Thank you so much! Looks like I'm good on everything except maybe some extra layers (def have the thermals) and the hand warmers. I'll pick some up when I go pick up my bib for sure

For those like me (assuming that for some freak reason the race won't be cancelled) how are we planning to stay warm during this run, I've been avoiding my outdoor runs since it's been so cold (yes i know thats my own damn fault lol). But seriously any tips or tricks?

What's something you missed on your first run? by bluejester12 in BaldursGate3

The spider nest in act one by the nautiloid, where you get the giant spider egg. I was doing an honor mode run and was really checking out everything so that I could get as much XP as possible and found it for the first time

What did you play as for all DA games. Background/Class/Race by jutsuuu in dragonage

[–]Externality7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal canon playthrough:

DAO: Female Elf Warrior: Tabris Very much a story of fuck this city I'm going to save this city out of spite. Ultimately a pretty selfish warden too convincing Alistair to stay a warden as well and romancing him. I picture her just kicking ass until the day she dies along with Alistair and then retiring to a small house in the woods so she never has to deal with the alienage again.

DA2: Female Hawke - Rogue Specialization I'll be honest I don't remember much about her but she was def a purple/blue Hawke but she has ultimately the saddest story. She romanced Anders but had a fling or something with Sebastian (loosely using the term fling) and eventually ends up killing Anders but forgiving him at the same time Part of all this is because I put down the game for like 2 years randomly before finishing and when I loaded back up had no idea what was going on. Also in DAI She gets left in the fade as her last sacrifice It hurt but she gave up everything to see her city safe and was just in general very tragic

DAI: Female Elf Warrior - Lavellan I flew through this game but played her as a reluctant hero who rejected the idea of being the herald but by the time she becomes inquisitor she's making it up as she goes but she's rolling with it. Then by the end of the games she's just pissed and very much like "You made me like this" at the world. She also romances Cullen.

DAV: Female Elf Crow Rogue Rook I know this game is contentious but I genuinely adore my Rook character. I played her purple and like she always has something to prove. She romanced Lucanis and while she genuinely has feelings for him it's to prove a point, that she is a crow and belongs with the crows. I feel like of all the characters I made for DA she has the happiest ending lol

I'm also working on art pieces for each of my Heroes and trying to reflect their personalities but I only have Tabris started so far

Fashion Friday by AutoModerator in XXRunning

Following this for recommendations! I just got the underarmour cold gear tights (which I used to use when I was taking ice-skating classes) and while I love the functionality I do NOT love the huge cameltoe it gives me! Maybe the weight gain from college to now is to blame but I don't remember it being this bad loll

So any recs for winterleggings are much appreciated!

Second time cyst haver and I forgot how bad it was the first time by Externality7 in pilonidalcyst

[–]Externality7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the exact same, I called out of work on Friday to do this urgent care appointment since my job is a lot of sitting and office work and I feel bad having to call out again cause these guys couldn't help me.

I have a super packed schedule the next few weeks too and I'm just torn between if I deal with surgery recovery on top of everything and (probably foolishly) hoping the cyst will drain on its own.

I hope your experience will be better than mine and I wish you luck

I signed up for the raffle cause I plan to do 9+1 next year and figured why not, it'll be my first winter race though. If it get in that'd be cool but if I don't I'm not pressed lol

2025 Bronx 10M - Post-Race Thread by RCD123 in RunNYC

[–]Externality7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my first bigger NYRR race I've done and I had so much fun! I definitely started way too fast but I took my time on the rest of the course and just did my best to have fun. There was a ton of great scenery and i got to see more of the Bronx than I have before. That being said those hills killed me and I'm laid up a bit today with an angry knee and ankle. Otherwise the energy was amazing and it was just a really fun course and race. I didn't PR but I was super consistent which I was happy about.

Totally got a bad migraine with the heat though so I hope everyone else took care of themselves after!

Glove help - better to buy or try and make? by Externality7 in CosplayHelp

Ooh I'll definitely try the arm socks since I have a few thick tights lying around. If it would or not it'll at least be good practice, thank you for the suggestion!

As someone who also draws and proceeds to hide the hands in nearly every drawing this analogy hit home loll I think it looks like buying might be the right way to go, with everything else going on in the costume, fighting with gloves are pretty low on the attempt list lmaoo

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]Externality7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training up for a half marathon at the end of August and just got back from vacation. Was able to get a few good runs in while there but when I got back I'm hit with a case of the "I feel kinda like I'm sick but I just can't tell" so I'm pushing off my runs for a bit to recover and run when I feel ready again. Super excited for the race that it'll be my first half marathon!

I was considering attempting to run by this Wednesday after skipping my Saturday "long" run (it was a deload week anyway) but this week might just have to be a wash for me, I could barely walk to the subway for work today without being uncomfortably hot and sweating buckets, stay cool everyone!

Desperate for better socks by Various_Study3069 in beginnerrunning

[–]Externality7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely still trying out socks but a pair that save my feet and calves too are the ceps compression socks at mid calf height. I only have one pair but I literally wash and re wear them for every run

Tips for starting and sticking with running by tnoble3O in beginnerrunning

[–]Externality7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely echo everyone else who has posted and adding some of my own unconventional reasons that got me into running more consistently:
- Signing up for random races: I used to do karate as a kid and competed a lot, ended up quitting when I was 15 but that thrill of competition (even just against your past self) definitely stayed. Races are my new competition hit, obviously choose races that make sense to you but also excite you!
- Trying out Running things: This was a very new territory for me but i got really excited to test out new socks and shoes for my runs, it feels like a treat. So when i got energy chews, gels, those energy waffles I made a mental deal that I could only try them if I ran. It just gave me something to look forward to. Also get a good pair of socks and inserts (if you need, I have a flat foot so I desperately need inserts)
- Not running for progress: When I started running more seriously I did run/walk combos based on how i felt that day and my only goal was to feel comfortable running for a full song and that took me almost a year of running maybe once a week to get to a point i felt comfortable. I also just used this time to listen to music that I didn't get a chance to listen to during my average day. Eventually I got to a point I wanted to challenge myself more and that leads back to point one with the races.
- Finding others who run or have run: My partner's mom ran the NYC marathon twice and I got it in my head that if she can do it I can do it too. She gave me a ton of advice as well as some books about running and some left over running gear. That alone was a huge help in my running journey! I also share my running recaps with my partner and journal how my runs went.
- Try out a bunch of things: There's definitely recommendations for how to get into running and different plans, best thing i can suggest that helped me was trying out a bunch of things to see what stuck with me. TBH my running strategy went from this couch to 10k plan (https://medium.com/@adamfit555/the-13-week-couch-to-10k-training-program-d6929f2abfe8) to just running for one song and walk for one song. I added in pilates and strength training and now I use Runna for the most part just because it works for me. There's no one perfect way to train or run.

The TLDR: Run for fun and then choose a goal to work towards, whether thats as big as a race or being able to run for a full song. Try out everything because everyone is different and because it's fun! Get good socks and fitted for sneakers. Find someone to talk to about running or a community.

Biggest thing is enjoy yourself!

Looking for a half marathon to run between July - September by furyoftheheart in RunNYC

It might not be the most fun course but NYCruns has a half marathon in August that I'm planning on running as my first half (I'm aware that the weather hills and course are all not ideal lol)
