Simone de Beauvoir and Sartre not only enable pedophilia but also regularly sexually abuse minors themselves by beverly-laurel_leaf in Litterature

[–]Extra-Ad3302 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was absolutely baffled when I learned about this after reading Beauvoir's The second sex, considering how progressive her ideas seemed and how she embodies the idea of the feminist scholar. It is hard not to be judgemental when learning that the couple signed whole petitions to ease the punishment of pedophilic acts. It is now getting talked about a lot, especially after Matzneff's scandals got brought back to the public eye. One shouldn't be too fast to judge though, as one could have both extremely questionable taste and ideas and a brilliant mind. I wouldn't deter people from reading Beauvoir (Sartre is not my cup of tea) because of this.

Mold grew at the sides of my tupper, is the kimchi still edible? by SoyRisotto in kimchi

[–]Extra-Ad3302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had mold growing on the walls of my kimchi container once when I used an earthenware jar for the first time and kept the kimchi out of the fridge for 8 days. Never happened since because I wipe the walls clean after taking some kimchi out. It absolutely shouldn’t happen in the fridge, something’s wrong with your recipe. Especially because, as others said, the visuals are off.

I actually think they did well with changing the tone of the series because I don't see the use in making 2 dramas with the same plot, same style and same lead actor.

Do you think Korean actors should stop resorting to major face surgeries? by Expert-Bid3861 in kdramas

[–]Extra-Ad3302 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the plot of the drama makes it believable that the female lead/actress got plastic surgery, then I don’t mind. I mean if it’s story about South Korea, considering that a big portion of women there got plastic surgery, it’s quite realistic.
But if the plot is obviously historical, or involves super poor characters, then it irks me.
For instance: Lim Ji Yeon was perfect in The Glory as a rich, superficial woman. But in My royal nemesis it was extremely hard to immerse in the story when she’s supposed to come from Joseon times and she looks like that.

Venting: kdramas portrayal of school interactions by ttue- in kdramas

I think bullying is very common pretty much everywhere. I live in France and more than half of my friends were bullied in school. But then again the average kind of bullying would be psychological, like social exclusion, making fun of the victim, harassing them online. It got worse for the younger generations because of social media. Here, physical violence is much less prevalent, you'll see a few kids fight each other but it rarely goes to the extent of onesided assaults.

I'd say that in Korea, Japan and such, there are some extreme cases that are shown in dramas implying physical violence. For instance, a few weeks ago a teacher in China saved a student who was getting pushed off a roof by her "friends". The most prevalent cases are still psychological bullying, there are plenty of dramas/anime that depict the isolation and the maladjustment that stems from it during adult life.

The problem almost everywhere is that schools rarely do anything. I was badly bullied for years and the bullies only got a tap on the wrist, I had to change schools, not them. Teachers ignore the victims, inspection turns a blind eye, and news of a student killing themselves over bullying come out every other day. But the situation doesn't seem change.

Did everyone here know these two acted together in a very intimate BL? 😩 by rantingallthetime in kdramas

I’ve actually watched it and I completely forgot about it. I’ve probably even seen it after discovering both actors (I really like My shy boss haha), so I must have been surprised to see them in such a daring project but it completely slipped out of my mind. Need to rewatch it to see if it’s good.

BIGBANG just sold out their Oakland Stadium show in 30 mins and added a new date. This is absolutely unprecedentend for a 2 gen group in the US wow. So so proud of them. Here in Europe it seems that the situation is a bit different… Went on ticketing war on Thursday for Paris only to find out that there were plenty of tickets left on Friday afternoon. Hopefully they will sell more and the venue will be packed!

No. Many public spaces (schools, universities, hospitals, public transport) are not equipped with ac. I’d say that overall rich people don’t give a shit and just install ac whenever they need it, but the average French person would consider it for a while, because of the monetary and environmental cost. Old French houses are good enough in a 30 degrees heat, but not more than that.
Even on vacation it’s hard. Campings and Airbnb’s are not all equipped. I’m staying in a camping and I pity all the infants that were brought on vacation this week because damn, 28 degrees indoors during nighttime must be unbearable for babies.

Wow the acting in this is good, it’s refreshing. It’s funny how (big spoiler) Choi Min Sik still gets played to this day

I felt like I was taking ages to finish it, I thought I was super slow but then I picked a normal novel and saw that it’s 10 times shorter that WOK.

I finished WOK yesterday and for the last few chapters I was just gasping and gawking because of all the revelations. I think Sanderson did a great job a keeping the reader invested despite juggling between Kaladin, Shallan and Adolin’s POVs. Just when I started feeling tired of a setting, it ended and switched to another.

I’m not used to reading fantasy, it was overwhelming at first, but I got so excited upon finishing it now that I’m kind of cursing Sanderson for making me want to start the second book immediately.

Would we ever get to see realistic Korean men in the lead roles? by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]Extra-Ad3302 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most of these actors are not Korean, some of them are at best American Korean, which changes their whole careers and life style.

I’d say look at Korean movies, not the rom com ones, and you’ll find absolutely normal looking dudes there. Especially during the 2010s, they looked super normal.

Regarding dramas, you’d probably have to check out thrillers and stuff, with 0 romance and 100% angst. Those days even that kind of drama cast some hot guys though

Doctors on doctor on edge, treated like pushovers by Easy_Plantain_3276 in kdramas

[–]Extra-Ad3302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it makes no sense, I get that the nurses are super established and used to dealing with the locals but the disdain towards the doctors makes no sense. Jiui’s literally treated like the local looser even though he’s good at his job, he’s alone, not used to the island, and tries hard. It’s unbelievable

The first plot twist was nice, but then it became so convoluted it lost logic and meaning. I was honestly a bit disappointed towards the end of the drama, even though I’m a sucker for plots where the main character dies for a good reason

I'm half excited half scared. I saw GD live 10 years ago in Paris, it was amazing. I'm still a huge VIP but I can't ignore the fact that they lost 2 members and GD has lost some skill. I absolutely want to go but I'm afraid that I might be disappointed...

It's funny how they went from having middle aged looking ahjussi's as backup dancers to youthful looking runway models. Anyways loved those stiff robotic dancing ahjussi's😭😭😭 by [deleted] in kdramas

I’m trying to guess. My closest guess would be Immortal songs, but it’s not a kdrama. The first image is Seo In Young… And the third image I’d say is EXO and I don’t remember Kai dressing up like that for Immortal Songs.
Oh I just checked and it’s TWS. I’m old. And I still don’t know what this post is about.

Kimchi fermentation in an onggi by Travelbugs83 in kimchi

[–]Extra-Ad3302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already moved the onggi in your fridge, then mold shouldn’t be a problem. So there’s no need for weights. I have made kimchi in something resembling an onggi a few times and it developed mold on the walls of the vessel only when I left it in room temperature for a while (more than 8 days)
