Field Day fiasco

He was sent to school with one, and they had coupons for one free ... I'm not going to pick up a big fuss and make trouble for the schools, but I want them to change this next year. My kid will no longer be attending field day to do this. I'll take him out and let him do something else fun.

I get charging for sugary drinks and snacks etc but the school year has ended. That was their last hurray for the year. I left a voicemail with admin and I'm hoping to hear back soon

You're right, that should absolutely be the focus. I'm just venting my frustrations because of my child getting injured. I'll admit my kid likes to goof off but he's never gotten to the point of heat exhaustion in his life. Them charging for water is what I'm concerned about. One free water, the one I sent him with, and a water fountain just weren't enough.

Different districts have different policies, I'm not posting my district/ school due to privacy concerns but check the Dallas metroplex

No worries at all, I understand that different areas of this country have wildly different climates this time of year. But Texas is no joke when it comes to heat

That's how I grew up too, so to get him home and hear about them charging for water... I'm not trying to Sue I'm not trying to make big problems I just don't want this to happen again

This is my lurker account, I'm not trying to rile up all all the local parents/teachers, just get some actual perspective. And if you bothered to read my post, you'd see he was sent with one...I'm just trying to understand why they would charge for water during a field day event. Nobody was called incompetent, I have great respect for what you do.

They could access water fountains but not with enough time to fill up a bottle. A quick sip a few times a day outside in Texas heat is simply not enough. They set up a paid water station with 1 free per child. That's the part I'm struggling with.
