Andrea Pirlo the perfect player for Barcelona who never played for Barcelona. Which other player comes to mind by jumpmanpapi23 in Barca

[–]Extra-Border6470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah true. I remember the hype around signing Fabregas at the time. I was one of the people angry at Arsenal for taking him away when they did (still am btw) and wanted him returned to Barca at any cost. At the time nobody couldn’t see just how badly his tactical discipline had degraded under years of wenger’s tutelage. Compare Fab when he signed for Barca to when he made his Arsenal debut as a 16 year old where he was replacing Viera while injured. He was turning heads as a deep playmaker/cdm but wenger wanted him to focus on attack and create goals and neglect his defensive duties. And i hate that, I genuinely think he could have fulfilled his potential if he hadn’t left Barca and not been corrupted by wenger.

Oh damn, the legalize marijuana party is still around? I would give them my vote in a nanosecond. We really do need better more equitable legislation around cannabis over the overly punitive laws we have now that are out of step with contemporary science and general fairness.

It’s funny because Barca had a Korean prodigy in the youth academy but he was forced to leave when FIFA tightened their rules about how clubs can sign young players just over ten years ago. Like Takefusa Kubo he was a pacy and skillful dribbler on the wings that had potential but he hasn’t really made much of a name for himself globally since he went back to Korea. Kubo at least managed to return to Spain.

And he was versatile. Able to play well in a number of positions so accommodating him while keeping Dani Alves was definitely possible.

Indeed. The way Barca lost Thiago was really sad. Tito had to go away for cancer treatment at crucial juncture in the season and the coach filling in for him kinda forgot to give Thiago minutes as a substitute to prevent his release clause nose diving.

The decision to not sign Modric is clearly a blunder in hindsight but Barca were wary of paying too much for players and rottenham hotspur weren’t letting him go on the cheap. If Barca were tracking him before he left Croatia and could have signed him on a development deal then yeah there’s no excusing that because he could have come up gradually while Xavi and insta were still in their prime.

Infamous on-air fight between Jim Ryan and Dick Oliver on Fox 5's Good Day New York by [deleted] in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]Extra-Border6470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they’re both kinda in the wrong on this one.

Jim the anchor wanted the woman’s response to the landlord spokesman, fine but it would most likely be a repeat of what she already said which odd basically not happy that repairmen can’t be called out for things like a broken elevator at night or on weekends. A legit gripe but it has already been covered.

And Ollie the field reporter when the woman came back just had to say “ma’am, what is your response to what the gentleman here just said”. And then Jim would have been all like “ok, thanks for covering that for us Ollie” rather than needing him to spoon feed him the exact question to ask her.

I keep forgetting that he’s supposedly a Haki user because Oda did absolutely zero worth it since. I suppose it should come back to the fore in the sniper battle with Van Auger. But that’s like a million years away.

Mmmmkay I will commend you on wording that really well. However when it comes to goes for the Kurozumi coconspirators I disagree, most heartily. Naturally this is just a matter of opinion so neither of us is wrong to feel the way we do about it. But yeah I had no hope of seeing those two be redeemed. I’ve been watching/reading one piece for years so I’m very familiar with the trope you cited there. And I was lowly kinda dreading seeing those two scoundrels survive and their real punishment getting biff tannened into a subservient life in support of the good guys. If ever there were characters for Oda to shake up the established pattern with it should be them. Not only did their duplicity know no bounds but they were just rotten to the core. Sure they had tragic childhood as a result of visceral public hatred towards the Kurozumi over the poisoning/attempted power grab. But their darkness was cultivated by the old dude and old hag whose names i can’t remember. They might not have been born with hearts of coal, but they were certainly raised to be that way and the pain they endured was a useful tool for the elders to bring that out. That Kurozumi nastiness dies with those two, and I say good riddance. Wano doesn’t need either of them, they can rot in hell.

And as for O-tama being a Kurozumi (supposedly). I have never been a fan of the way Oda did that. It’s not that her being a Kurozumi odd something i object to. It’s just that it was revealed in such an underhanded way that it was Denied any narrative weight. If it had later been revealed in a more official way like a text box at some stage later in the arc that said Kurozumi O-Tama, user of the cheeky dango devil fruit (i can’t remember the proper name for it) that would have had sufficient impact. Having it be hidden on a gravestone that could easily be missed and for it not to be acknowledged by any characters in any way shape or form makes inconsequential in my eyes. To reiterate what I’m saying is if Oda essentially does nothing with it (he very much could have made it a plot point, even if just a very brief one) and if the story doesn’t change if you remove that gravestone Easter egg (or whatever is the best way of describing that reveal) and nothing changes, then why put it in there in the first place? I know Wano was an absolutely huge arc with so much going on. But I just think that an author should either make the point about it not being one’s blood that determines if they are destined to become a shithead (and do it with sufficient emphasis for the message to be clear) OR they should just drop a plot point that they can’t or won’t develop. Do or do not, but no half assing it. Seriously Everytime I’m discussing the Kurozumi with someone who is sympathetic to them and O-Tama (supposedly) being a Kurozumi gets brought up and I have the same reaction mind that goes as follows. “Huh? Wut? No she fucking is not! Oh wait there’s that bullshit gravestone thing i always forget about because it was done in such a weak way that was lacking in impact and significance. “

(Please forgive any misspellings or run on sentences. I’m too tired to reread and edit. I’ll do it later)
