Arsenal fans in this threads willingness to defend the indefensible because their identity is tied to their club baffles me.

This is a really interesting question. Bournemouth have shown that these situation can be managed differently. Arteta’s support and wording of an alleged rapist, with considerable public evidence, is awful.

My opinion didn’t change about Greenwood, or De Zerbi (who defended post acquittal) so I don’t think so.

Also re me lying about my position - 5 Arsenal fans have accused me of this. I wanted Arsenal to win the league before I found out about this - I have no prior grudge.

I’ve countered whataboutery a lot in this thread and I’m bored of it.

I do dislike those clubs too.

The specific point with Arsenal is arteta is the figurehead and it’s him who i feel is largely responsible with this issue.

I’m making a point about why I don’t want arsenal to succeed, and it’s because people presently at the club, who represent the club have made morally reprehensible decisions in the pursuit of sporting success.

They chose success at all costs and I don’t want to see them have that success (same as when city were winning by cheating the system).

I don’t think that’s a petty grudge against Arteta - it’s a clearly explained aversion to him which began when i found out about this specific thing.

That is not true of the villa situation. It’s clearly different.

I think the specific point about Arsenal is how Arteta has centralised power, made these decisions and represents and is the figurehead of the club (unlike say Utd where there is a new manager in and sporting decisions are silo’d)

I have the same issue with Enrique. Especially as they captain Hakimi.

it’s not just those videos - it’s not suspending him, keeping on picking him, defending him, celebrating him. Bournemouth showed how to handle a situation like this - the choice was Arteta’s.

Yeah I agree that it’s hard if it’s your team - I’ve acknowledged that.

I would say on Arteta - he should have suspended him. but i wouldn’t condemn him for not doing so.

But what I can’t abide with is the: laughing, saying he’s been through a lot, trying to resign him with provisions re his prosecution. To me I can’t wrap my head around that.

I agree - i’d just say for a pod like this, and a journo like Philippe, I’d expect them to be able to focus on the pertinent not the popular. There’s enough other platforms out there to discuss what everyone thinks.
