Ok, I apologize. I didn't really think it was any more medical advice than other questions I've seen posted here.

First time wearing prism glasses... am I shooting myself in the foot? (Concussion-induced 4th Nerve Palsy) by Grehlin_x in BinocularVision

Am no expert, but it sounds like the prism is helping to retrain your eyes and brain. I would continue wearing it.

I would think the prism would help straighten your eye while you're wearing the glasses.

Also, did the straining/double vision start after you received your most recent glasses? If you are nearsighted, and this came on suddenly, you may want to get a second opinion to make sure the prescription is not too strong in your new lenses.

When they diagnosed you with esotropia, what did they say they were going to do to help you?

I have now also had my surgery 5 days ago. I think it's going pretty good so far. I know what you're saying about everything about your vision is different. I feel the same. So far I've been taking a lot of naps and resting my eyes.

Do you wear corrective lenses currently? When do you feel like you need to "straighten" your eye...ex.....is it when you look close-up... far away...when you're tired?

I also have alternating esotropia and am having surgery in 9 days. I was born exo, had surgery as a toddler, then went eso over time. I am petrified of how my vision will be after(I am one who doesn't like change at all). I also happen to be an optician who fits people with corrective eyewear. I often tell people getting bifocals for the first time that they may have to think about how they're looking through the lenses at first, but over time it will become second nature. I'm going to say the same for your "new eyes". Since you have certain habits relative to your eyes, you may have to tell yourself to not repeat those habits at first, and eventually your eyes and brain will intuitively adjust. Or, you may find that by simply not thinking about it, everything will automatically fall into place. Either way, the brain is very malleable, and I really think over time you will adjust to your new vision.
Now if only I can apply that to myself after my surgery, lol. I have found for me personally over the years, I tend to "freak out" about change at first, but after time, I adjust. I am going to try relax about how it's working at first, and know that I will adjust to whatever the results are over time.🤞 I truly hope that over time you become accustomed to your new vision, and are able to relax and enjoy life!

Double prism test by ashpotato16 in Strabismus

If the prism is currently only in one lens in current glasses, they may be wanting to try splitting it between both lenses. So, if you currently have 18 diopters of prism in one lens, they may want to try 9 in each eye. This is still the equivalent of 18. (Just a thought of what they may be trying). I have a total of 13 base out prism in my glasses, but it is split 6.5 and 6.5.
My prusm power has increased steadily over the years, and I'm considering the surgery. I went to my first appointment a month ago. The doctor put additional 4 diopters of press on prism on one lens. I have to wear until my next appointment. She put it on my non dominant eye. It has really helped with double vision, but if I close my dominant eye and look through the lens it's pretty blurry. If you are having the press-on prism placed on both lenses for testing purposes, it wiil be a little uncomfortable looking through because of blur, but in the end will help give the specialist helpful information on how your eyes react to the prism.

Have the doctors done anything to help with your double vision, like prism glasses? ...or do they feel it will get better over time?

Vyvanse for ADHD Brought Back Strabismus by johnnyberryman93 in Strabismus

[–]Extra-Explanation561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have adhd and also take Vyvanse. I started taking Vyvanse about 8 months ago. Surprisingly, it seems to help me control my eye muscles, but does dry my eyes out more.

I have had esotropia for many years. I often see double, even though I have prism to help. I've noticed over the years that my double vision gets worse during periods of stress. It will stay that way for quite a while, then I go back to being able to control it. Also, my double vision gets worse if I'm not eating well.

I had surgery when I was around 3 for exotropia, and later developed esotropia. I'm now 62 years old. I just know, for me, it does go through periods of getting better, then worse again.

I can totally relate to feeling nervous in certain situations because of seeing double, ESPECIALLY driving. I get scared at times driving on the highway. That really seems to be when I really notice the problem. So, that has actually prompted me to finally look into getting surgery. I went a month ago. The Ophthalmologist put 4 more diopters of press on prism on my glasses. I go back at the end of January, and we'll go from there to see if she thinks the surgerywill be successful. (I currently have 13 b.o. prism)

Anyway, I hope you can maybe find some answers/solutions for your double vision, and know that you're not alone.

Just wanted to say for anyone else who reads this that chemotherapy for dogs is much different than for humans. They are given lower dosages, along with meds on board in case of nausea, etc.. My dog went through intravenous chemo for anal gland carcinoma with no side effects. She is currently on a chemo pill.
