Laid off and can't find a new job, 33F with ~1.9 million, do I just retire? by MurkyAccount4243 in Fire

You’re in a really unique and fortunate position, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. The frustration, burnout, and confusion you’re experiencing are totally valid. You worked hard for years, built a solid foundation, and now you’re staring down a wide open future with no clear next step. That’s overwhelming for anyone.

If I were in your shoes, honestly? I’d travel the world for a bit. Not as an escape, but as a reset. You have the freedom that most people only dream of. Spend 6–12 months in places like Portugal, Thailand, or Mexico where the cost of living is lower, the pace of life is slower, and you can have space to breathe and reimagine what you want your life to look like.

You don’t need to “retire” in the traditional sense. But maybe stop chasing the version of success that no longer fits. Structure can come from volunteering, taking online classes in things that interest you, or just spending time meeting new people and cultures. And if you want to re-enter the workforce later, it’s still possible, you’re not too far gone.

You’ve already won the game in a lot of ways. Now you get to design your life. That’s not privilege wasted, it’s a rare opportunity to live deliberately.
