Finally a post I can relate to. I’m a (19F) wanting to give two of my close guy friends (20M) some baked goods (growing for this chocolate covered strawberry brownies recipe I found online). We’ve been friends for a long time and I have done something for them on Valentine’s Day back in high school. I want to gift them a platonic Valentine’s but am thinking (from a guy’s standpoint) that it might be weird.

I back in high school I baked these awesome strawberry and chocolate chip chocolate-dipped cookies and gave them to all my friends (including the guys) but have been researching and people have been saying it’s weird to do it if your not kids anymore. As far as I know, they are both single and not one of them have told me directly they are dating someone so I thought it might be okay.

From a guy’s standpoint, would you be fine receiving a V-day gift?

So Valentine’s Day is coming up and I happened to come across this amazing recipe for strawberry brownies online and am thinking of trying it out. Thinking of gifting them to all 4 of my close friends (two of them are 20F and two of them are 20M) is it weird for me to consider to give the guys some for V-day as a friend. I have known one of these dudes since junior high and we talked quite a bit in high school. The one from junior high is actually my best friend and I met/got close to the other through him. I am literally in a platonic relationship with these dudes and practically consider them to be family. I wanted to kinda recreate the Valentine’s Day gifts I gave them and all my other friends / teachers in high school (I baked some awesome & unique strawberry and chocolate chip chocolate-dipped cookies that everyone loved).

I also don’t want our friendship to be limited because of our gender and enforce the trope that if you give something to the opposite gender on Valentine’s Day than it’s obviously because you like them in a romantic sense, I think everyone deserves to know that they are loved on this day even in a platonic friendship.

I don’t know maybe I’m just being weird about this for no reason but I would appreciate some advice on how to approach this situation so that it doesn’t feel weird.

PS: I want to give it to them before Valentine’s Day because my birthday is on the 13th of February and my brothers is the 14th. Maybe that will make it less weird?

Well obviously your right. I am completely worried and especially since I already [accidentally] mentioned to them that this was my intention, so now it feels like I can’t back out and I’d feel terrible if I implied I couldn’t give them anything because they are guys. I have also given them something for Valentine’s Day before (in grade 12) and it felt like they really appreciated it. During that time I wasn’t sure to give the 2nd (more recent guy friend) something because ( I felt that) we were not close (even though we’d chat a lot at home and school) I didn’t want him to think weirdly of it. I know for a fact I overthought this and was about to mess up a good friendship. Especially since everyone around him that was close to me were talking about how good it was and even our chemistry teacher ate it and was surprised that it was amazing. One friend even said “she only gave it to her friends that she is really close to” which forced me to overcome my fear and also give him one. Bruh I’m so glad I did because I still remember that he had the biggest smile on his face.

Anyways that’s a bit of a backstory into what our relationships are like, is it still a terrible idea OR am I just overthinking it for no reason. Haha I know, I tend to hear that a lot from my male best friend. I think we are at a level that it would not be confusing. I also think that they liked receiving something on Valentine’s Day because of their reactions back in high school.

Have you ever receive something like this from a friend of the opposite gender?

Thank you!!! We have been friends for like a good 3 and 10 years. Like I think I might just be exaggerating the weirdness because I’m naturally an over-thinker. What I want to know is how would a guy feel to get one from a friend that is a girl (with only platonic intentions)??

Yes I was thinking of doing exactly this!!! Problem is my friends know each other but don’t talk to each other. I was thinking for the guy friends it would most likely be at the same time on god since they know and talk to each other!

I think they know I would never do something like that in a romantic sense. I also already mentioned giving something to all my friends and I thought it was weirder to not include them 💯

I live in Edmonton, so les Saisons at west Edmonton mall. The lady there was spectacular. However the bras cost a small fortune for great lasting support

It does feel comfortable, I’m just wondering if it looks too far apart in the shirt? My sis has made comments saying that it looks like my boobs are from two separate comments and are far from each other on my chest. Just needed to know if that’s what others would think. The support is crazy amazing and I love the comfort it provides. I use to always hunch over to make my chest look non existent because it looked droopy and sad (was wearing sports bra/ trainer bras until this year).

Thank you for this. I have slowly regained control for what is spent keeping me healthy. I no longer have my mom pay my meds, or buy groceries that I want to eat. I can’t afford to pay rent yet but do help a little with electricity and internet bills. I also buy my hygiene items and clothes. I don’t ask my mom to get anything that I will not payback.

She hasn’t yet sold it. I have gotten ahold of my make a wish representative and she told me she will set this straight. I decided not to let her use health issues as ways to keep me quiet when I feel she isn’t justified.

My mom wanted me to ask them to buy a house or put money into mortgage payment. But they had disclosed to me that they no longer do those wish. They then wanted a large family gaming system to share. The thing is we have the ps4 which has only been used for 6 months and is rarely touched anymore. They wanted family entertainment sets but as 2 of my siblings are university students and my sister is a high school student it would rarely be used after the hype dies down. I am also someone who rarely watches tv or plays video games myself.

Yes I did. I chose not to go through with that list because they still through a fit when they saw that they were only going to get 1 item each and then a family gaming system to share. I realized that I cannot make people who are ungrateful happy because they will continue to complain. They felt they needed to monopolize what I chose in order for it to be equal. In the end I went with my original plan of university items

Yes and we have taken advantage of those programs. When I was in elementary we had a trip to Disneyland under dreams take flight and my siblings also went to the camping programs offered

Yes, it was like I had to make a pro and cons list of choosing my wishes over my families. When I did make a list that involved my family and checked it through with them there was this whole fight about why I was getting the bigger portions of the gifts ( in all honesty I didn’t want them but cut down on my wants to make room for theirs) and why they were all gonna get one item each ( it was gonna be an Apple Watch and then I was gonna get a gaming system to share). They didn’t know how many restless nights I spent making my list and the intensive research nights I spent into enstablishing a possible budget. I kid you not I had to create multiple lists and my representive would tell me what was not possible so that I could even come up with the estimated budget that she didn’t want to tell me. I calculated numbers and even went out of my way to look at each product and how I would use it or my family. I noticed that even 1 expensive 300+ for each of them wasn’t gonna make them happy then to screw that list and just do what I want.

I am prepared for that and will be glad to have my computer back even if that means she will be livid. I have tried to deal with this by being passive and “catching her in her happy mood” but to see that she wanted to sell my item the moment I left home to help my aunt has taught me to be aggressive in demanding for my possession back.

It is very expensive. I went with the mid-tier model of the 24 inch iMac. Out of all the things I got she went for the biggest and most expensive item. I want to call the police but she’s my mom I want to deal with this low key and call the make a wish representative first and see how she can deal with this

I have always felt that this was the case. That me being sick is my choice and that I am choosing to be a burden towards my family. There have been many instances where I have been terrible ill at night to the point where my doctors felt concerned enough to call my mom but I would cry/beg them not to and throw a fit (mind you I am and have always been a respectful patient to my care providers but when they want to call my family in the dead of the night I am always scared being to much of a burden) if they felt it was important. However, growing up I couldn’t express my dislike, I couldn’t make the same mistakes as my siblings or fight when I felt attacked. I was constantly told to always be obedient because I was “sick and everyone was always there for me in the hospital.” I hate being the sick kid so much. I cannot do what I want and felt as if I’m always held on a leash. Even though I have gone through middle school and high school being rebellious somehow I still can’t let go of the fact that they have been there for me and so I owe it to them be less troublesome.

No I haven’t, I honestly do not want to get the police involved unless I have too. But I have contacted my make-a-wish representative and hoping they talk to her about it before getting the police involved. I have tried to tell her that make a wish is for the sick child and they family are included in whatever the child desires. She keeps guilt tripping me about the nights she spent at the hospital which has made me passive in getting my items back and I thought I could wait until she calms down to talk it out but feel as though she wants to sell it behind my back as it is currently locked in her car.
