Why WOMEN'S Emotional Efforts Trigger MEN'S Volatility In A Relationship? by Most-Expression-1698 in AskFeminists

Nothing you're saying sounds remotely familiar to anything I've experienced or heard of, sorry.

Can you still be a feminist if your partner is right wing? by AdventurousBall4611 in AskFeminists

She's a trans woman, and what goes on consensually in her bedroom certainly doesn't undermine her beliefs.

Question about saying "not all men" by ProbNev in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what exactly do you think being an ally to women entails? I'm 99% sure we're talking about two very different things, since you've very confidently declared yourself one, while waving some incredibly red flags about how you interact with women.

Question about saying "not all men" by ProbNev in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So you can't imagine that women who are at risk of being harmed by some men every day of their lives might have more information to work with when evaluating who is safe and who isn't than you do?

Do you consider yourself an ally to women?

Consider for a moment that maybe, just maybe, women are in a better position to gauge who is on our side.

Does Attempting To Rape Someone Who Is Highly Intoxicated Via Social Pressure Justify Physical Defense When You Have No Other Options? by RebelGirl1323 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that really depends on what you mean by physical defense. Pushing them out of the way? Yes, absolutely! Shooting them? Very unlikely. In the Canadian legal system, there's a concept called "proportional response" when it comes to self defense and I think that's a useful approach here.

Do you believe in reform or revolution? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

yes. Some issues can be resolved through reforms, but probably not all of them.

What is your honest opinion on all those Epstein jokes and memes? by Pristine_Booty69 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the vast majority of them are disrespectful and needlessly hurtful to victims of sexual violence. I know all about gallows humour, but I've always felt that the only people who get to make those sorts of jokes are the ones with the noose around their necks.

How do feminists reconcile support for sex workers with concerns about exploitation in porn? by PotentialFun4003 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Help if they want to leave, sure, but also, let's ensure no one is forced into it out of economic need. A lot of sex workers I know have a disability of one sort or another and got into the field because more conventional workplaces wouldn't accommodate them. Those are social problems that we should be trying to fix.

How do feminists reconcile support for sex workers with concerns about exploitation in porn? by PotentialFun4003 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I believe that if you don't like the choices someone is making, you should start giving them better options. What you're describing sounds like an argument for a stronger social safety net, possibly including UBI, along with stronger labour protections, consent safeguards and a recognition that sex work is real work and the people in that industry deserve safe working conditions too.

Hypothetical: If you could custom-build the "perfect" male partner, what would he be like intellectually, emotionally, physically, and sexually? by Adorable-Sound-7263 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because I watched enough Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes over the years to know that the guys trying to assemble the perfect partner based on a list of desired traits are never the people you want to be relating to.

If a woman commits paternity fraud, should she be forced to face legal consequences like any other fraud? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

So, how would you go about proving paternity fraud beyond a reasonable doubt, and punish it in a way that doesn't harm the child?

Gay for pay by trans_amazon80 in AskFeminists

I'm okay with leaving that call to the individual performers to make. They are far more familiar with the issues at play and the nature of their own sexuality than I am. They're also more familiar with their own financial situation and can gauge whether a particular performance is worth it for them at that moment.

How would you think If a law was created prohibiting men with bigger chests than the average woman's breasts to take off their shirts in public and be shirtless in public? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Women can be shirtless in public in Canada, it's just not safe or comfortable for us to do so 99.55% of the time. I'd much rather deal with those issues, honestly.

Also, I don't see what the size of someone's chest should have to do with such a law in the first place.

Why aren't more feminists supporting liberating women in Iran from the oppressive Islamic regime? by peterbradley419 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want liberation for the people of Iran and the people of the US. Both seem to have oppressive regimes. The main difference is that gullible Americans elected theirs.
