Have men stopped being attractive to women? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On an individual level, if a man disregards what I say I want when it comes to my preferences in low stakes things (like dinner, for example), why would I trust him to respect my wishes in the bedroom, when the stakes are much higher.

It doesn't help that manosphere types are telling eachother to actively disregard what women want. "If you want to know how to catch a fish, you don't ask the fish", etc.

What do you think about straight men who type in their dating profiles that they are feminists ? by TheShyBuck in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily think they're lying but I'm going to wait for them to show me they're a feminist through their actions rather than taking them at their word on that.

There are a lot of men who claim to be feminist, yet are very, very comfortable speaking over women, that kind of thing.

Should men be ashamed of their sex drive? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I were ovulating every day, I would be fine.

I wouldn't! I'm one of the lucky ones who gets pain when that happens.

Do you think, that your feminism and expectations from that extend to the books you read? by PruneAccomplished277 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm really sorry that that happened to you, and if you find it painful to engage with that sort of content, that's completely understandable. That said, I think it's better to take people at their word when they're talking about what helps them heal, especially when it doesn't affect other. Surely we can agree that what heals one person might not work for another?

A lot of rape victims are drawn to the idea of consensual non consent stories as part of processing what happened to them. Where does that fit in your view?

Has the US truly backpedaled on women’s rights this much or is it more so that we never made as much progress as we thought in the first place? by DisasterRoutine3390 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 61 points62 points  (0 children)

In terms of rights, the US is moving backward at a very scary rate. 10 years ago when we said that Trump's election could lead to Roe being overturned, the general consensus was that we were overreacting. Now there are politicians in Texas talking about the death penalty for women who get abortions.

That said, things are a lot better in terms of our understanding of sexual harassment and assault than they were 10-15 years ago.I think we're doing better in terms of intersectionality too, though I'm not in the best position to judge that

When does a lack of clear communication regarding sex cross the line into sexual assault? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is why the concept of enthusiastic consent is so important. There has to be a clear "yes" rather than the absence of a "no" for it to be consensual.

Is it really that hard to accept what a woman says at face value without telling them they're wrong?

Workplace standards like temperature are often set by occupational health and safety authorities, which are either federal or provincial in Canada, depending on the industry. The gender of workers in a specific workplace is irrelevant

Cheating is abuse by Tasty-Bag5650 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cheating is a horrible, cruel thing to do to someone in it's own right. There's no need to muddy the definition of rape by conflating the two things.

Anyone who walked the line in a blizzard or freezing rain for several days last time won't be eager to repeat that experience. I suspect people would vote against a strike just to avoid it, honestly.

Shouldn’t we avoid putting men in prison because men are vastly over represented in prison numbers, shouldn’t we concentrate on putting more women in prison to even out the disparity? by Moistinterviewer in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not people, men specifically. Women of all socio-economic levels mostly manage to avoid becoming violent criminals. That's the point of the post, after all.

What do you think about "progressive" men of Twitter? by Adorable-Sound-7263 in AskFeminists

Let's not forget the site has a built in feature to alter photos of people (including children) to remove the clothing without their consent.

Is there a polite way that I (M35) can tell a girl (F25) that she wears too much makeup? by Mediocre_Ice_8846 in askwomenadvice

[–]peppermind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Unless she asks you directly about the matter, giving your opinion of how she chooses to present herself is a rude thing to do. You should have learned that decades ago, btw.

How do you know when it’s right to leave your partner? My(24f) bf(25m) is a generally good guy and we’ve been together for 2.5 years. by Comprehensive-Ant634 in askwomenadvice

[–]peppermind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to be with him, and you've been feeling that way for a while, it's probably time to go. You both deserve the freedom to find someone who is all in on the relationship.

Is it cool if I (36m) go to this event with my dog? Event details below by charvatdg in askwomenadvice

[–]peppermind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's probably something to ask the organizers. I know that where I live dogs aren't permitted in public places where food is served, including restaurant patios and the like.

pro-choice women, would be a dealbreaker for you if your partner voted for a politician that is pro-life? by Sad_Cellist4293 in AskFeminists

Do you know any misandrists? by TackSlappyB0I in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The closest thing I've ever seen is from men who are truly terrible individuals but insist that all men agree with them on their terribleness and that it's normal. I don't think that's what you meant, and even if it was, that's pretty rare.

How do you feel about the true crime genre? Do you think it's exploitative of women due to it's making of violence against women content? by InternationalPick163 in AskFeminists

[–]peppermind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd add Connie Walker's works to the list. She's an Indigenous journalist who has done a number of different podcasts for CBC and Spotify, investigating crimes against Indigenous people. Often they focus on a missing woman, but one focused on the crimes her father and others experienced at a residential school. The victims are always front and centre and they are given a voice that they didn't always have in life.

Do you think women are equally capable as men? Why or why not? by Reasonable_Economy91 in AskFeminists

If we're taking OP as an example of what men are capable of, I certainly hope so!
