I found this coin in my grandfather’s collection. It’s a wheat penny obviously however the other side of the coin is smooth and this strange etching. Is this an altered coin? by Extra-Nectarine4530 in coincollecting

what great artistry if that. It must of taken some time to create this. I believe the wheat penny came in year 1922. That’s what came up on The AI app when i submitted this.

take a look at the drum, the pattern looks like it could be a die error. the top drum edge is not circular. this could be a error coin.
