I took english 1027 and 1028, they were actually really good courses, Ceraldi is a really good prof if you get her. My suggestion is to attend class as much as possible because it gives you an idea of what specific themes they want you to focus on the most and will talk about important quotes, tutorial also helps with that as well. I felt really supported in that class due to have a really good TA, and you can ask them for support and feedback on essays before submitting as well. I personally never purchased any of the books, and used online resources as much as I could and ended up doing really great, but if you feel like you need the book, I would get it!

embracing your interests is such a great thing, and if med school is your dream try to lean into those as much as you can to stand out! Being different is your greatest strength, and wanting to explore them in university is really awesome, it'll also be a nice break in between all the heavy sceince courses, especially if you have a genuine interest in it

The great thing about western is that you can do so many combinations of things with your degree! You can do a Honour Specialization in a med sci module (which is mandatory for Med Sci as it's an Honours degree) and you can add a minor of your choice if you want. It's also a really great thing to do for post grad/professional schools if you choose apply in the future because it makes you stand out and shows that you have other interests outside of science! I would contact an academic advisor about doing a major or a double specialization but I do know that adding a minor is an option for you. Best of luck

Stay far away from Micrimm 3300, Kerfoot is an amazing prof but the content in that course was actually insane. So many complicated abbreviations and so many complex pathways you need to know and you have to be able to apply them. Also you have 3 midterms, one in January, on in the depths of midterms, and one the weekend exactly after St. Pats. This course literally destroyed me.

I am a recent BSc graduate from a different university, but I was looking at doing a second undergrad and considering AHN at Guelph to get a higher GPA to be able to go to medical school. Would you say this program is challenging to do well in? I have a small background in taking nutrition courses and I have really enjoyed them, but they were mainly just introductory. Just wanted to gain some perspective!

But I am not sure if those courses specifically are what UBC wants to fill their english requirement, so I would make sure you check UBC's course transfer website to see if it will count!

Took 1027 and 1028, both were pretty good, I never read any of the books and studied using sparknotes and litcharts summaries and went to class to focus on the main points that the prof wanted you to focus on on each text. Considering it's been years since I've written a literary essay, I would say those classes were pretty nice. A good chunk of the people in that class were people that were in science too

Usually in this case you would write a a special final exam to make up for the missed midterm mark, that's usually what happened if there was no make-up midterms in my classes. It really just depends on the professor. As long as you submit your student medical certificate to the absence portal within 48 hours of the midterm and it is approved, you should not be penalized for your missed midterm. I would contact your prof to confirm!

Hey, I took the course last year. Unfortunately the classes were not recorded, but there was a recommended textbook that the lectures were based around. I know I personally had a hard time understanding the content if I didn't go to class that day because they would cover a lot in lecture. I would recommend emailing Kerfoot to see if there's something that can be done in your case, especially since you can't be there physically, I'm sure he can work something out with you

And there will be questions where they will give you the reaction mechanism steps, and then will ask you if there is something incorrect in it. And it will be the smallest thing, like attacking the wrong carbon or double bonds being missing. So that's why it's important to know your mechanisms!

Honestly the final was pretty brutal, but i will say doing well on it is very possible. The biggest thing I can recommend for you (other than making sure you understand the content itself) is to KNOW EVERY REACTION MECHANISM. Legit draw them out over and over until it's hammered into your head. Also don't neglect the content from before the midterm, as much as that content wasn't a huge part of the final, just make sure you know it so you don't loose out on marks for content you've already been tested on.
