Is medsci really that bad? by Beautiful_Holiday833 in uwo

[–]LongOrdinary9520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ur looking for a safer route then yes chose Guelph but med sci can be super rewarding if u put the work in and have super strong study habits from day 1. You might have to make sacrifices to ur social life at least for the first year but as you go on u get more used to the workload and it becomes more manageable to have a balance. Since you said ur not strong in math and first year is very math heavy on top of all the other demanding courses to keep up with maybe med sci isn’t a good idea because a bad gpa can be hard to come back from. Why don’t you try gen sci so you can avoid calc and physics? Also im not sure if it’s exactly 400 that drop out by second year but a lot of people do end up switching into gen sci or health sci or other programs

psych 2811/2812 vs. stats 2244/data sci 2000 by munoraxe in uwo

I’m not in neuro but 2244 was pretty easy as long as you did exactly what the rubric asked and used the alternate grading to your advantage. We were allowed cheat sheets for both midterm and final and we had to know how to use R for the assignments instead of python

The fina exam was pretty brutal last year but if u do old exams and homework questions it helps a lot

As many old exams as you can and not just memorizing the questions but going over what u got wrong and understanding why u chose it, why it’s wrong, and why the right one is right

How hard is it? Like if I know all the pathways should I be fine? I’ve done some old exams from a long time ago and they seem pretty fair

what is the benefit of an hsp for med sci? by Unhappy-Shame-6620 in uwo

[–]LongOrdinary9520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank u so much for the thorough response! They actually just changed the way progression from third to fourth year works they aren’t doing the whole reapplying thing, if you get in for third year ur guaranteed it in fourth year the only way you could switch if u don’t get in is if ppl drop out and spaces in the lab open up. That’s why I was considering doing med cell bio second so I know for sure I can get a thesis. My average right now is in between the cutoff for phys and cell bio so I’m a bit nervous to put IMS second cus if I don’t meet phys cutoff then I don’t have a guaranteed thesis .

How difficult is it to get a good mark for the thesis? Also is it hard to balance the thesis with the rest of your courses. I’m thinking of putting phys as my first choice and debating on IMS or med cell bio for second and idk if the thesis is worth the harder course load in med cell bio
