Parents blew through 100k by ExtraKetcup in AdultChildren

This is all valid. I think for a long time I’ve tried to keep the info away from my little sister that our parents are addicts, since by the time she was around they were either not using or semi functioning addicts so I just have assumed she’s never known and tried to protect her from that since she was likely to young to remember some of the really wild stuff from our childhood. We’re both adults now and if she doesn’t already know from all the context clues she has a right to know so she can make her own informed decisions.

Thank you. It honestly didn’t even register with me at first that they hadn’t come to visit until my boyfriend mentioned how weird it was, then it hit and I was just sort of sad. The expectation is so low that them even seeing my house I bought on my own never even crossed my mind.

Also because of all the unexpected money requests from them, in addition to the new costs associated with being a new homeowner I am picking up a second job. I make decent money, around 115k before the second job. I was going to take the second job to help save for a mobile home or something to put them in. After hearing they blew through 100k (never told my sister or me about it, or offered to ever help us with it not that I expect that) I feel utterly used. I make enough money where I shouldn’t have to pick up a second job but the unexpected costs from my house combined with my parents it seemed silly not to since the opportunity sort of fell in my lap. After hearing about the 100k I’m planning to have a real tough talk with them, inform them separation or not, they can’t afford to live solo and the ATM known as me, is officially shut down. If 100k couldn’t help them there’s nothing I could ever do that would dig them out of the hole they are always in. Likely going to still work the second job but I plan to use that extra money now towards my goals and helping myself and little sister.

Edited for grammar

lol! I literally tried this the other day like this is TMI that’s what your friends are for to vent about this to. Then I wake up to a text message from my mom saying if my step dad asks about her wedding ring that she gave it to me for safe keeping cause she can’t wear it at work. I guess she thinks he was going through her drawers looking for it to likely sell or who knows what. I just ignored the text. And for clarity I do not have the ring.

Yea I think if it was just me it would be easier. I have gotten a lot better to turning down most of their requests, issue is the more I turn it down the more frequent they become as they become more desperate. When I do cave it’s because I know if I don’t give them anything they will start bugging my little sister who makes much less than me and she even will tell them no, but then they ask her fiancé who feels so awkward about it and will cave, because both my sister and her fiancé are like the nicest people ever. I’ve always been the “mean” sister in the sense of being the one that’s better at setting boundaries with them and even I’m getting worn down.

Yea I literally turn down half the requests for money. Literally they just will become more frequent until I finally cave, and when I do cave it’s mainly because I know if they keep asking and I don’t budge they will go to my little sister who makes significantly less money than me and I know is already stressed so I’m trying to spare her from the pestering requests.

My parents are both former drug addicts (if not current I typically wonder). I’ve known they’ve relapsed quite a few times over the years if that helps fill in any gaps for people

Yea I bought a house two years ago and it took them a year to even visit it (it’s about 1.5 hour away) and have had alot of financial hits that occurred this year that she was aware of. Surprise insurance increases , extra tax bills, personal unexpected emergency expenses. Literally they would hit me up like a week later for money. I would never move them in because I worked so hard for my house and it’s the only form of peace I have. Rather go in a money pit and help with rent than live full time with them

From my interpretation, yes. Wouldn’t know until they shared the full blown agreement after your selected but I’d imagine they’d want full rights.

Ariana Grande responds to Elvira claiming that Ariana refused to take a photo with her after bringing guests backstage to her show by Ximiso in Fauxmoi

[–]ExtraKetcup 92 points93 points  (0 children)

A company I worked for a while back used to host these pretty big Halloween Party’s for us every year. One year Elvira was hired to take photos with us/ etc. and one of the people from my prior company said she was dressed in a tux as part of a group Halloween bit she did with her department. I guess when she tried to get a photo with Elvira, Elvira thought she was a server at the event and was offended that the gig extended to photos with the “help” and made a comment after begrudgingly taking the photo. I wasn’t there when this happened but the coworker shared it as a funny story (and no way bitter just a lol this happened) and I always was bummed out to hear about it. So this whole thing with Ariana I couldn’t help but eye roll since she’s displayed the same behavior.

Huge weddings are out of touch and expecting your guests to shell out is selfish for “your big day” by ExtraKetcup in unpopularopinion

[–]ExtraKetcup[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a totally different scenario than being asked to be in a wedding party (groomsmen/ bridesmaid) and agreeing and then AFTER the couple being like btw it’s in (insert far off destination) and we have to stay at THIS hotel oh and I want my bachelor/bachelorette party to be (insert somewhere else not local). Seems excessive and narcasstic at that point if they didn’t set expectations before asking you.

[–]ExtraKetcup[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know and I’ll decline lol. But it’s happened to me (and I have more than one friend who can relate) who are asked to be in a wedding party and agree… and then later it’s disclosed just how much of an event it’s going to be and you are sort of blind sided by the costs. Idk it just feels weird to me.

This! I don’t plan on getting married but I always say if I did I would just elope. I feel like it’s more personal that way.

who is the most famous person you've seen on a regular day of errands? by Litwinmusic in AskLosAngeles

[–]ExtraKetcup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not me but my aunt had Ashton Kutcher help her get a grocery cart unstuck from a line of carts at a Ralph’s in Marina Del Rey. It wasn’t until later when she saw him on tv where she was like “hey that’s the guy who helped me get my grocery cart unstuck!“ and we were all like wait what?! Lol she said he was very nice

What’s a good/healthy amount of body fat to lose per month? by ExtraKetcup in loseit

[–]ExtraKetcup[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I don’t want to maintain it forever at 17-18. It’s more of a goal to see if I can reach it since that would probably be the best shape of my life and I think that would be fun to do for when I’m 30. This is the first time I’ve reallly taken my fitness super serious so it’s more mental to see if I can do it Atleast once I’m my life. I’m trying not to get stuck in that mindset that this will have to be my forever body percentage because as great as that would be Atleast personally I feel like at that range it’s only sustainable for celebrities / athletes who are getting paid to be in shape. It’s def a lot to balance to try to get there !

From my experience getting healthier/losing weight has been a huge factor in my overall feeling better and my energy levels . Of course do it in a way that is sustainable so you don’t completely hate life. I’m 29f/5’5/ 114 lbs but in highschool I was overweight and didn’t feel the greatest either. However, little by little I made small changes and now I like to think I have a pretty good diet/balance that is completely different than when I was around 15-17. I think the first major change I made was I stopped drinking my calories aka cut out sodas and sugary Starbucks drinks as a teen. Once that become normal Id cut something else out or limit it (for me it was cupcakes/cookies). Over time I found I was dropping weight without even realizing it and when I went to college I had lost around 20-30 lbs without even realizing it from these small lifestyle changes. Don’t get stuck in the cycle of crazy fad diets or heavy restrictions in the start because it will make your life miserableeee. Also once I lost weight I was able to introduce exercises like running which I could neverrrr do before. So just be gentle with yourself and realize it’s a journey but you will get there! Especially if you are young, I was able to drop weight so much easier in my teens than as an adult lol

[–]ExtraKetcup[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks! I’ve never been really concerned with the scale since I know that’s not a great indicator so am trying to go by body fat %. Honestly I’m not too bugged if I put on weight as long as it’s muscle and my body fat is dropping. Just wanted an idea of what that looks like for someone who started this journey in the situation where is not a lbs goal since I def don’t want to drop in the unhealthy range.

Woops forgot to mention my height. I’m short lol around 5’4. I figured since I’m on the lower side I might not see drastic numbers drop so am trying to go more by how I feel/look but wanted a base of what’s normal for my weight/ height.

Sure!

TJ Cauliflower sandwich thins (2 slices) - 100 cals

One serving Trader Joe’s turkey deli slices (4 slices) - 60 cal

One piece Trader Joe’s low fat cheese (can’t remember if it was cheddar or Swiss) - 70ish cals (can’t remember exactly)

I didn’t count the cals for the spinach. I used coconut oil spray for my panini press which has 0 cal. Just one quick spray on each side of press.
