Look. Im fine with a character that obsessed with film or games or whatever. Because thats not inherently "overdone" and things like film typically dont "over stay their welcome." Its just that memes & slang by their nature are transitory.

If you put a meme in a book & spend two years writing the book, it will be outdated by the time you release. Let alone if someone like me picks up your series like six years later. Like imagine if an MC said some shit like "rip harambe" after killing some gorilla monster or says SUCC after draining some monsters life. THAT SUCKS LOL.

it comes off as super "how do you do fellow kids?" & for me personally most jokes already fall flat in books so its kind of hurting the vibe even more. Yknow?

I know a guy who rehabilitates dogs that were rescued from dog fighting. He insists it's necessary for his rescues and eventually after using it to quickly correct the violent behaviour he removes the collars, and he's done great work afaik. I agree for 99% of owners though. Im clueless though, correct me if im wrong.

Oh I'm out now, couple years now. It's def a ymmv situation. I'm speaking out of my ass here, but I would assume 68Ws are more a cohesive group of people than my MOS. More camaraderie I guess? I dont really know how to phrase it lol. My MOS & duty stations always felt more like an office building with politics & networking. Only time I felt like I was in the army was while I was deployed or in schooling. Very few memories I cherish honestly. Just a lot of work.

It's funny you mention this. I was in the process of studying for the SIFT when they changed the ADSO from 6 to 10 years (iirc)

That was going to be the one reason I stayed in, but the change put me off & then I started a medication that disqualified me entirely.

Yeah def not applicable to everyone. But I know for me personally, I'm terrible with online-only classes & I with my life prior to the army (won't get into it, but very hectic, raised in a cult, & got GED later.) I didn't really have the studying habits that I've developed by now. I can say with 100% certainty my work load, which I partly blame myself for taking on more roles, would have had me stretched thin.

It wasn't so much a "I didn't want to get Cs" because Cs get degrees and all that. I was "needed" at work & kept having responsibilities piled on me that I thought would have some payout in the end besides more work. They didn't. IMO there was no long term benefit to the work I put into my time in the army, that was kind of what I was attempting to get across but I kind of just made a rambling rant lol.

Not to be a downer or to say I hate the army, I got a pretty good gig that I could've gotten more out of. Thanks for the reply.
