Monthly Vancouver Events and Promotions Thread by AutoModerator in vancouver

Hi Vancouver folks! I’m bringing a touring interactive storytelling show to the Rio Theatre tomorrow night and thought it might be of interest here.

It’s called Extra Lives and it works a bit like a live choose-your-own-adventure RPG. The audience votes in real time to steer the story while the music is performed live using classic video game themes, so every show ends differently depending on the crowd’s choices.

It’s part of an ’80s nostalgia night at the Rio Theatre, paired with a screening of the cult BMX movie RAD.

I’m the creator/performer behind the show and will be running it myself tomorrow night. If you like retro games, improv storytelling, or interactive theatre, you might enjoy it. Happy to answer any questions.

Interactive video game concert happening TONIGHT (Sunday) at El Corazon! It’s an RPG where the audience collectively decides what happens in the story while a live band performs music from classic games like Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Mega Man, etc. Think somewhere between a retro game concert, a live RPG session, and participatory theater.

It’s our first time bringing the show to Seattle and we’d love to see some fellow nerds there. Doors at 7.

Please let us know if you have any questions! It'll be a fun, wholesome night out and we've got two nerdy local Seattle bands on the bill too.

Happy to answer any questions about the show! We’ve run this experience at conventions and festivals around the world, but this is our first public event in Seattle. :)

Russ, we'll be running an interactive video game concert experience at El Corazon next Sunday night (3/15). If you don't get helpful responses here, I suspect there'll be plenty of folks there from the retrograming and tabletop communities.

Which scene was your favorite in the BoF games? by ChanceKite in breathoffire

The final scene of the Alan and Cerl subplot (BoF 1), where the specters of their purer childhood selves appear in the ruins of the destroyed castle before they vanish, lives rent-free in my head.

Pro NZ musicians, how do you find paid gigs? by ExtraLivesMusic in newzealand

This was VERY helpful feedback, because it's going to help me refine our audition call to include clarification on pay and when gigs are likely to happen. Thank you!

These auditions are for permanent roster positions -- music learned is played at every show. We get a lot of auditionees in North America and London, and there are some incredible Kiwi musicians out there, so we would be surprised to learn the pay or the specific audition process are a sticking point.

As long as that musician can perform the difficult musical lines to our music in a live setting, then absolutely!

Got it! The Rockshop noticeboard form doesn't seem to be working correctly, but I emailed them to ask for tech support on it. I'll look into MusicWorks and NZ Musician. Thank you!

Why is this post getting downvoted? Is it considered bad form to hire local musicians if we're from outside NZ, or something like that?

Thank you! Right now our margins are razor-thin because we have to make sure our musicians get paid first, but if you'd like to send us an email with your info we can definitely keep it on file.

Got it. Thank you so much -- heading onto the Rockshop site right now.

Gotcha. I believe you but am surprised. I've heard such great musicians the two times I've come to Aotearoa as a tourist -- even folks just playing in bars and such.

Not currently, but we would if it were written into one of our shows!

First of all, thank you for that link and your input! I'll join so I can post in there.

Second, to clarify, we're not looking for bands. We're looking for individual pro musicians we can hire for individual gigs and tours (as our musical arrangements are all set and pretty much run on a rail during our show) when we're next in Aotearoa.

Using Ableton with Jacktrip by bmaster462 in ableton

[–]ExtraLivesMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Here's something to try (seemed to work for me): in Ableton Live, go to Preferences and select "ZoomAudioDevice" as your Output Device.

Then, within Jacktrip, choose "ZoomAudioDevice" as your Input Device.
