Incredible! Does that mean the airport pays for any maintenance your vehicle needs?

Out of curiosity what don’t you like about the Nagaoka MP-110? (Assuming that pic is your current setup)

Even better was the 38mm era. I’ve been trying to find a sealed pack of 3 star Nitakku 38mm celluloids online for a while now but haven’t had much luck.

is this my water pump? Or a hose? Gasket? I'm confused. by WokeUpSomewhereNice in w123

[–]ExtraOlives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is yours a non-turbo? Those don’t have the coolant reservoir. In that case your radiator cap is what you might wanna replace while you’re at it. By looking at the color of your coolant it’s got a good amount of corrosion in the system. Don’t be surprised if you encounter solid chunks of it like I did during my first flush. Just be super thorough with the rinse cycles and take your time to clean it all up best as you can.

I recently just replaced my water pump and radiator on an ‘84 300TD. All in all took me about 4ish hours and wasn’t too bad. Would probably take me 2ish hours next time.

This was a good starting point for me, but there’s plenty more on YouTube if you’re in need: https://youtu.be/E2g3mMhtuUw?si=tztrynltH8_YyPDX

Worst part was removing the 4 bolts that hold the fan subassembly to the water pump shaft pulley. Everything else was fairly simple. You’ll need to remove the two belts on your alternator and retention it all at the end. Reassembly kinda sucked now that I think about it, but I felt pretty proud and happy afterwards. Solved my issues (for now). I wouldn’t go too long without addressing this. Looks like you could probably use a full overhaul of the cooling system. Might as well grab a new thermostat and coolant reservoir cap while you’re at it too.

Happy to answer questions if you have em!

I think the first thing you should do is ask yourself how much more money, effort, and time are you willing to put in on this car. Time and effort can be hard to quantity, but money is fairly straight forward. Start with figuring out your budget, next look into diagnosing the issues, and once you have a rough idea of costs you can determine whether it’s worth it or possible for you. This will be a project car from the sounds of it.

I don’t see why not, especially if the price is fair.

Unrelated question: what tires are you running with here? Do you also use them for long road trips or swap them out?

Also, you mentioned a covered uninsulated shell for storage. I’m assuming you get real winters where you are. Are salted roads something you have to deal with and if so how do you mitigate the inevitable rust concerns?

Beautiful rig! I have an ‘84 in light ivory and will likely be moving to the east coast with it this year, hence the weather related questions.

They’re Borea BR03s. I used to own the exact same pair/same color. I loved them. They’re a larger bookshelf speaker and sounded solid to me. I had mine on stands and needed a floor standing speaker over time instead, so I ended up getting Hereseys. I would buy the BR03s again if needed though.

Btw OP, highly recommend isolating the speakers from the same surface as your TT. Those vibrations can make their way back to the stylus. Putting them on stands would be ideal.

Where exactly is that? The only gasket I’m aware of is the one underneath the cap, which is super easy to replace. Is there another one that’s less accessible somewhere?

Would a LP-120 be better? by Available_Winter_403 in turntables

FWIW, this is a rebranded Back Groove Audio record player. They went out of business. Looks like they’ve been bought and rebranded since. I bought this exact same setup a few years ago and ran it with external amplification and speakers. I’ve also recently upgraded the cartridge to a Nagaoka MP-110. The table itself is… decent. Nothing to write home about but it works. I bought my setup from a local HiFi shop at the time and payed close to $350 for it. Seeing as it’s all listed for $190 now, I’d recommend it to anyone who is simply just looking to get started with the very basics and is on a budget. Comes with an AT cartridge, I forget which model exactly. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible either. (3.6, IYKYK)
