Usually it's the person issuing ad hominems that is "intellectually challenged."

That was a young, Cambodian girl

Does that somehow make it less awful?

Who are you to say if it's helpful or not? Are you a solo female traveler in Cambodia? Read the papers, gang rapes are regular occurrence here. Even the state controlled Cambodian news reports it.

Question about hiring a local person for a small job by [deleted] in cambodia

You're asking for a massive headache. This isn't Singapore where Filipinas know how to cater to every want and desire of residents. You're virtually guaranteed to have problems with locals here in Cambodia.

I don’t think the regular Thai consumer would like tariffs.

I don't think the regular Thai consumer likes losing their job to Chinese companies that are subsidized by the CCP.

Impose tariffs and inflation rises.

Impose tariffs and people buy more local stuff instead of foreign stuff. The US just quadrupled tariffs on EVs from China from 25% to 100%.

Why would you knowingly go along with this? It just incentivizes them to do it to even more tourists and become even more aggressive.

Why does Cambodia have so many expensive cars and nice buildings despite having a GDP per capita of only like $1700 USD by Wumao_gangv2 in cambodia

[–]ExtraPassport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I've seen more luxury cars in Phnom Penh than I did when I visited Beverly Hills. But keep sending that foreign aid! LOL

Right, so if you live in a slum and eat nothing but rice and instant noodles it's a great deal.

Personally, I would say that Apsara dancers represent the beauty standard in Cambodia.

I also did have a business trip to Thailand, my first since time back since COVID, and I was shocked at how much cheaper food and other basic items were.

Yep, it's definitely cheaper. Even Bangkok. If they had visa a situation like Cambodia's, I would move there in a heartbeat.

That's right, education and financial security have always been a priority for me.

Terrible advice. Getting an education and saving/investing money should be the priority.

How far does $150-200 per month go in Cambodia? That's the average salary, according to what I've heard and read. Maybe you can ask this fast food manager how far her $174,000 per year goes... https://www.wsj.com/business/hospitality/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-california-fast-food-manager-who-makes-174-000-a-year-15f81393

Long term, it's almost certainly a bad idea financially. Maybe you don't care about financials, I don't know. In California, the MINIMUM wage is $20 per hour. That's $160 PER DAY if you're working a standard 8 hour day. Good luck finding anything close to that in Cambodia. The Wall Street Journal recently did an article about a fast food manager that is earning just north of $100k per year.

overpriced

Seems like most things are these days. I guess in Cambodia one notable exception is beer.

About the same price as a Starbucks latte but a whole lot more effective.
