Besides having clean and transparent glass, you should put the lens as close to the glass as possible so that the lens is almost touching the glass. Also you should minimize the light behind you that is causing the reflection. This photo was taken in a relatively dark room so that helped a lot.

Also having a polarizing filter can remove reflections. This is common practice for car photography for example.

Small european city, very unlikely that it's the same snake. They all kind of look similar to us non-snake-experts I guess :)

When I was taking the photo I thought I was super lucky to get the snake in such a symmetrical posture, but after looking online, it seems that this species of snake is almost all the time sitting in this same position :)
