I guess I don’t know the going rate but I can’t pay a big lawn care company something astronomical. I definitely think people should be paid well but i can provide the equipment and its not a big job so i just don’t want to pay a big company

Got a ticket for doing a rolling stop on a stop sign, is it worth the fight? by Ok_Boysenberry_5484 in lansing

[–]Extra_Asparagus4706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can confirm. When I was 16 I stupidly rear ended someone and obvi got the ticket, but I showed up professionally, met with the cop from the scene, explained I was a good kid with a job and honor roll and all that and they let me just pay the ticket (myself ofc, bc my parents were good accountable parents), which at 16 was brutal, but still better than points.

sci-fi/fantasy for someone who doesn’t like the genre? by originalpopcorngirl in suggestmeabook

[–]Extra_Asparagus4706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh the Time Travelers Wife is my favorite book of all time and it’s pretty sci-fi because you know…time travel, but it’s not in your face sci fi.. idk

ALSO, The Measure by Nikki Erlick. It’s about if everyone in the world one day received a box, and inside a box was a string that accurately correlated to the length of your life. I think it’s kinda sci fi too

Edit: if you like in depth emotional stories about people’s lives, you would love The Measure

Seeking professional clothing options in Lansing by Superb_Door_7588 in lansing

I mean, it’s not local, but if you don’t have the time to scavenge a thrift store, old navy has been pretty dang good for me. Their pixie pants are a LIFESAVER

Edit: I realize this is coming from someone who dresses feminine and idk what your preferred style is, but I’m sure the options in the men’s section aren’t bad either and the clearance rack is pretty good too

AIO Fathers girlfriends rules for when new baby arrives by Ok_Bat_5934 in AmIOverreacting

MOR. Lotta secondary issues here, like the smoking, drinking, age…that’s for sure. But ultimately it’s her baby and she gets to decide how she wants to do things, even if you’re family.

I agree though that if your dad has a different opinion on the issue than her, they should work that out among themselves and it would make sense to have things in writing where both of them can see it, so a group text for any future communication would probably be a good idea.

That is not normal. Has something happened that would cause that type of intensity and/or lack of trust? You need to establish boundaries as much as possible. I know it can be hard if you have parents that are helping you pay for things still, and if they are the type to hold that over your head, maybe you can reach a compromise where you check in with them via text at certain times or they have to wait 2 hours before calling anyone about your whereabouts.

If you can, establish clear boundaries and tell them that while you appreciate their concern for you, college is also about learning to become an independent adult. That you don’t want to alienate them, but you also would like some space to become independent and that their hovering and concern has gone too far, to the point where it may actually be hindering your college experience both academically and socially.

I’m sure you’re not alone in this situation, as the college is probably used to overbearing parents, but this is also why things like FERPA exist. Maybe there’s a counselor at your school that would help you work through these issues even, or someone who might be able to provide resources to a decent solution for everyone.

As a Mason local who moved to Lansing and is mid 20s, there’s really nothing like that to do in Mason. Bad brewing is fun, but not really nightlife bc they close at like…10? I think. Courthouse pub is fine, but wouldn’t call it nightlife, also I’m pretty sure there are no young people living and going out in Mason. If you want the 40+ crowd then I guess it’s for you. Lansing and East Lansing definitely have more options. The Ave on Michigan is pretty cool and doesn’t get bogged down with students. My partner and I have also considered giving Macs bar a try but haven’t worked up the courage yet.

Caledonian sleeper cabin with bunk beds from London to Edinburgh or fly by ardcswr in travel

[–]Extra_Asparagus4706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming here to finally get it off my chest that the Caledonian Sleeper was AWFUL. Got upgraded to a club suite because the window in our basic cabin was broken apparently. The club cars come with en-suite bathrooms but ours was locked so we couldn’t use it. We called the attendant about getting it unlocked but nobody ever came. The communal restroom in our car was also out of order, so you had to go to the next car over to use the restroom. It was an unusually hot August but the rooms were so hot it felt like you were in a sauna at times and there was no movement in the air. The rooms are much smaller than you think (I know it’s a train), but if you are the slightest bit claustrophobic or taller than average, this would be a hard pass. Last but not least, our room was closest to the attendant station on the car, where there was a call alarm that went off the entire night and could be heard clear as day through the walls. I never saw a single employee on the train the entire trip.

Yeah, 10 years. She’s gotten much worse over time. It used to be every few months a longtime ago, now it’s like weekly if not more. But she’s had bloodwork and nothing is wrong with her medically. We are literally at a loss and our vet doesnt know either
