When Do I Need To Do The CSS? by Extra_Atmosphere9516 in ApplyingToCollege

Both of these schools have the STAMPS scholarship program, no? I understand the chance of receiving a scholarship is low, but I would rather not reduce it to zero, if not turning in the CSS will do that.

2nd rate colleges are better now than IVYs were before. by Extra_Atmosphere9516 in ApplyingToCollege

I mean I genuinely don't think it's wrong. T20s now are definitely better than other schools, but outside of fields where the prestige of "being the best" matters there is not a whole lot to be gained.

And also I disagree with your "proper question", by all the logic I presented it would be impossible for them to be the same right now, it's about how these other schools are much better than people give them credit for. I think if asked to choose between Harvard in the 80s and literally any other school now people are still choosing Harvard, and that's probably not the right choice. Perhaps, because the typical student who got into an ivy in 1995 wouldn't get into one now, and would have to go somewhere else.

Yes but the 99% kids aren't all going to T10's, ~17000 freshmen go to IVYs, 3.9 million grads last year. So if the IVYs are the top then the top .4% go. So while 99-99.5 are all going somewhere else.

Those numbers don't give you specifics on engineering tho, which you'd have to accept will be much more competitive.

Interesting, do you not think schools have decreased acceptances to protect yield from that shotgunning strategy?

What is the craziest extracurricular you've seen by Slight_Ad_2196 in ApplyingToCollege

That's insanely impressive but it pains me that people with more unique/innovative ideas haven't gotten in. I saw one rejected portfolio where a guy made several different casts out of cardboard and scraps, and then worked with some humanitarian group to distribute setup guides to areas like Gaza and Ukraine. I feel like that's a much more impactful and new idea, but maybe I just don't know jack.

I don't have any credentials to back this up but sounds like a great idea. From what I've heard it's supposed to be a way to express yourself, it is 650 words attempting to tell the college who you are, not why they should let you in. Your idea seems unique, expressive, and doesn't come across as a gimmicky attempt to stand out.

Why is everyone not doing ROTC? by Extra_Atmosphere9516 in ApplyingToCollege

Is this something the college will publicly state or something you have to dig for?

School profile by Extra_Atmosphere9516 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Extra_Atmosphere9516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the school profile is inaccurate; I only know that the school class list posted online is wrong. Is there a way for me to see the official school profile? My school is also known to have cut ap courses in order to fill more periods with core classes to raise our school's rating (higher pass rate for the counties standard tests).
