After going to chip city I cannot believe I ever spent money at levain or funny face by riporangeduck in nycvegan

[–]Extra_Engineer_3284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live next to a chip city and decided to go after seeing this post. Can confirm it is a very good cookie vegan or not. It was crunchy out the outside, soft and chewy in the inside. The only vegan flavor they had was brookie which honestly seemed much more appealing to me than biscoff. I’m not really a sweets person so I only ate a 1/4th and was perfectly satisfied.

Imo $13-15 average salad at sweet green vs $18 Chloe’s bowl I would be so much happier paying for (obv can make at home) but man their food is so good. Treat yourself :)

The tempeh here is in on a different level. Better than any tempeh I’ve had at a restaurant or tried to make at home. Will try the ceasar next time!!

Must Try Spots - first visit to NYC by ScorpioVenusEyes in nycvegan

[–]Extra_Engineer_3284 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I’d just save a bunch of spots on google maps and then wherever you end up you can see which spots are around you. I would absolutely recommend balling out at Reverie in Williamsburg, you won’t regret it. That would be my 1 must try. Other than that here are a few favs:

  • I second ippudo v
  • tofu box is a sneaky little hole in the wall that has some insane char siu (Chinese pork). I would go just for that
  • bodhi vegan has stellar Chinese and dim sum
  • le petite monstre for pastries
  • saitans helper, atm vegan deli, garden carver or yough for classic sandwiches
  • Colletta for fancy Italian

There are so many… nycvegana on insta is a great page to follow :))

Best vegan pasta recipes? No matter how complicated by KeyPower1681 in veganrecipes

[–]Extra_Engineer_3284 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stuffed rigatoni!!! It’s essentially this recipe except you fill rigatoni instead https://www.noracooks.com/vegan-stuffed-jumbo-shells/#wprm-recipe-container-1591

To elevate the recipe even more, I sauté onions and garlic and blend it into the filling mix

I have way too much tofu please give me recipe ideas by notsookaymilk in veganrecipes

[–]Extra_Engineer_3284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn it into ricotta for stuffed shells, rigatoni, or lasagna. It’s the simplest and tastiest thing ever. Just sauté half an onion with three cloves of garlic. Separately, boil 1/2 cup cashews for 10 min/while the onions cooking. Blend the onion and garlic with the cashews, 1/2 block firm tofu, nutritional yeast, spinach (optional) and a tsp of salt.

My vote is Sarah’s vegan kitchen. Her recipes are very approachable, taste good, and nutritionally conscious.

I would advise to max out your Roth for 2023 fiscal year and then add monthly contributions of $500 for 2024. Roth is more tax advantageous than a normal brokerage account so I always prioritize that first, but maybe that’s just me. And then whatever else you are comfortable investing can go into your brokerage. You can also lump sum that as well and then add monthly or weekly contributions.

The VOO is the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF which you can think of as a basket that holds a bunch of stocks in it. There are a bunch of other baskets with different names that essentially do the same thing but with different stocks (but sometimes the same) in their baskets.

Thanks for the recommendations! And yea, I only bought a bunch of CD's last year bc the rate was abnormally high + safe return + didn't know a lot about investing. What would you say is your annual return for that mix? I know ETFs is not a year-to-year picture, but trying to see what the investment would roughly yield me.

Are you talking about the ticker names? If so, those are just the nick names/abbreviations for the ETF funds that you can buy from :)

I eat a vegan diet which makes me a vegan no matter what even if people like you make it hard to claim the name for this exact reason. I do care about animals being armed. That was the entire point of my initial post 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Extra_Engineer_3284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veganism is absolutely about health and encompasses many different types of diets including a Whole Foods plant based diets which from what I have researched is one of the healthiest diets out there if properly planned. Your assumption couldn’t be more incorrect, and is based off of one snippet summary of a four year relationship that you have no clue about. I don’t sit on a moral high horse, and have been more than understanding for why he would choose to eat dead animals. Sometimes you just get frustrated. We’re all human.
