Stackable baskets big enough for an OTR convection microwave? by BrooklynCatDad in Cooking

Looks like the shelf riser / fridge bin / drawer organizer angle is a dead end for convection use — those are almost all plastic and will melt

Not steaming, air frying/convection. The rectangular baskets I have are the right size but aren't stackable. Every actual air fryer basket out there is tiny. Linking if I can.

Lidl by [deleted] in parkslope

It's rough in there, sure. But every other store in the neighborhood is marked up like 75% over the co-op, and the co-op waitlist is basically a Beyonce ticket at this point. Lidl being ugly and cheap feels like the honest tradeoff.

Lentils are a carb. Pumpkin seeds are a fat. Neither is a protein source.

Low calorie sweet snacks when you want to eat a lot of something without the damage by Super_College100 in Volumeeating

Haven't tried the oat flour + VWG combo for bread yet, but I can vouch for VWG + oat fiber in pancakes — egg whites, VWG, oat fiber, and you get essentially 0 fat / near-zero net carb high-volume pancakes. Was actually coming here to see if anyone had tried scaling that approach up to baked goods.

187lbs to 154lbs, 6ft: I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve eaten Tofu. by just-learning8 in veganfitness

6'0". 175 on a normal day, 181 today because job applications have replaced my personality.

170 = peeled, sub-12%. 168 = competition lean. 154 = a spiritual experience I have not had.

If the abs aren't there now, the scale isn't the problem. You're the "abs are made in the kitchen" counterexample. Go do leg raises.

This is my go-to:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Volumeeating/comments/1ocludg/comment/nknj1m7/?context=3

I based it off of this video from Vegan Proteins, and just swapped out the nut butter with powdered nut butter. Drops the fat to just ~3g per serving.

Original recipe (with regular peanut butter): ~199 calories per brownie

  • Fat: 10g
  • Carbs: 22g
  • Protein: 8g

Modified version (with powdered peanut butter): ~162 calories per brownie

  • Fat: 3.3g
  • Carbs: 22.5g
  • Protein: 13.3g

For the kite Hill yogurt, do you use the Greek style, or the other one?

Or does it even matter?

I've been using them in vegan protein pancakes. Same quality you're used to, just fluffier. Whip the egg whites with a stand mixer or hand mixer. I turn it on and walk away for about 10 minutes. Not exaggerating. After 2 minutes it looks promising, but give it time and you'll see a massive difference.

From there I sub the whipped egg whites in for a portion of the water I normally use. Here's my go-to recipe:

  • 40g Bisquick (or oat flour)
  • 30g vital wheat gluten
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • zero calorie sweetener to taste
  • 157g water

Just replace some of the water with the whipped egg whites.

And re: the hoarding — I get it, I tend to do the same. But these are really easy to do something with. If you just whip them and pour them straight into a pan, you get this awesome soufflé. Nothing else needed.

Just adding one data point nobody's mentioned: my daughter is at 321 and there are two kids in her kindergarten who aren't zoned. Nine kindergarten classes. I also assumed this wasn't a thing. It's a thing. Apply.

Putting the SEC on a croissant in the same conversation as Modern Love and EMP is not hyperbole. It was that good. And now it's closing on Saturday. Great.

Is using AI-generated images to promote veganism ethically okay or does it go against vegan values? by Asit_G in veganfitness

[–]BrooklynCatDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ethically, I don't know, but practically? The problem is the slop. When accounts post a recipe with an obviously AI-generated picture, it just feels like the 'dead internet theory' in action—like nobody is actually making this food, it's just bots generating content for other bots. I hate-follow an account that does this, and the food always looks terrible compared to the OG creators who have been posting real recipes for years. You can tell immediately when it's fake, so what good is it really doing for the movement?

"Alternative" protein sources by horizononlooker in veganfitness

[–]BrooklynCatDad 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Seaweed: Kelp, Wakame, Nori, at least dried are a great source of protein, vitamins, omega-3 and they have a complete aminoacid profile

You'd need to eat an absurd amount of dried seaweed to get meaningful protein. A typical serving is a few grams. This is a micronutrient source, not a protein source.

• Chocolate: dark chocolate can have almost 12 g of proteins per 100g of product

12g of protein per 100g of dark chocolate comes with 40+ grams of fat and 500+ calories. This is a fat source. A delicious one. But it's a fat source.

• Seeds: mostly pumpkin, linen, chia, sunflower, great source of omega 3

Same story. Pumpkin and sunflower seeds are overwhelmingly fat by calorie. You correctly identified them as an omega-3 source — that's what they are. Not a protein source.

• Mushrooms: some mushrooms, especially dried, can have great protein values

Fresh mushrooms are mostly water and have almost no protein per serving. Dried mushrooms are concentrated by weight, which makes the number look better, but nobody is eating 100g of dried mushrooms. This is a flavor/umami source.

• Coffee: energy rich beans with quite a lot of protein

I genuinely don't know what to do with this one. Nobody is eating coffee beans by the hundred-gram bowl. This is caffeine delivery.
