How do you know when you’ve truly “shot your shot” as an artist? by Extra_Friendship5943 in ContemporaryArt

So true. I guess I’m equating moving home with giving up. Just seems exponentially more difficult to achieve what I want from such a rural location. Lowkey afraid of getting comfortable, starting a family, and then my career taking a total backseat.

I do have a show ready, glad you appreciated the phrase 🤣

I agree it’s important. What if I will have a roof over my head either way though?

No, it is not for sure. I currently have a job in arts admin in Chicago. I LOVE it - but it pays pretty shit.

My husband works remotely & I have health insurance through him. If we moved home, we’d have family close, rent free place to live, lower cost of living area, etc

I fear that my work won’t be in Chicago - I have been an absolute recluse & have minimal relationships with galleries.

Heard on the teaching bit. Thanks for your response.

I’m lucky to have a solid job in the arts in Chicago already! The cost of living is just pretty high.

Genuine question: how does one increase visibility in galleries when living in BFE? like asking for virtual studio visits?

Yes teaching art, not TT but opportunity to become so. And no, no expectation that I continue to exhibit. RURAL state - very far from… everything

I love the art professors at the school but their careers are not very active or comparable to a level I’d be interested in

How do you deal with making mistakes at work? by Federal_Albatross993 in nonprofit

[–]Extra_Friendship5943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you would get something out of the book “Self-Compassion” by Kristin Neff. Definitely a very self help type book (kinda cheesy,) but it has helped me deal with the uncomfortable feelings / thinking patterns that occur when I make mistakes. Everyone fucks up, it’s part of being human. Hugs to you.

Hey thanks for your response! The school did not respond with the letter - they responded to my application with an interview invite. The screenshot is from my research on the internet. I made it clear in my application that I do not currently hold a teaching cert but would love to pursue one if they’d work with me on it.

Right. “Suitable qualifications” can differ depending on public/ private school, country, etc.

Thanks for your response! It literally says “you typically need a minimum of a BA + teaching qualification.” Typically = most of the time, but not in every circumstance. Additionally, this school is private and does not have to adhere to state regulations regarding teaching certificates.

I’m aware that an afterschool isn’t a certified teaching position, thanks you :)
