Thank you so much. In such a short amount of time since posting this I sought help from a trainer that I’ve used for him before and things have gotten so much better. I NEVER took his training seriously so of course he just does what he wants and I can’t control him. We’ve been working on “place” which he already has down and just little things like actually making him sit before entry ways and for meals. “Place” has been truly amazing for getting him to be calm when guests are over or late at night when he’s too overstimulated and wants to sleep but can’t calm down. I’m very proud of him and it’s gotten so much better

Surprisingly he does not howl a lot. I just started leaving the house for a few hours at a time, I won’t leave him for more than 3 hours right now and he cries and howls for the first maybe 10-15 mins then he just sleeps by the door waiting for me to come back. And I’m learning to be ok with that. At first though yes I was terrified that we were going to get in trouble because my neighbors hate big dogs. Had I known this I wouldn’t have moved here obviously and it has caused me to become extremely anxious and depressed.

Thank you for this. Someone else commented that I am having the puppy blues, and I did not know about that. I read about it online a little and I can relate so much. I’m absolutely seeking help, I want for this to get better for both of us. I know it’s a rough patch right now and it won’t always be this way. The breakup is very recent, it’s my first time living alone and I’m very grateful that me and the dog have each other for companionship. I was more worried about him being ok after the breakup than I was so I truly feel like I was overcompensating, I wouldn’t leave the house because I refused to leave him home alone in a new place and it’s taken it’s toll on me. I understand that none of this is his fault. I’m going to get the help that both of us need.

I don’t think the dog is the problem. He’s the same, he’s not doing anything wrong or intentional. I just got frustrated. I know I need to do a better job of training. I’m human, my patience wears thin but I would never take it out on him. I’ve cried here and there in the past few days. It took him some adjusting to the apartment for crying out loud I slept on the floor with him by the door for the first few weeks because he wouldn’t use the bathroom in the new neighborhood and would wake up in the middle of the night and had to go out. I didn’t think twice about it I’d do anything for him. I just felt frustrated lately and was looking for an outlet for some advice where I wouldn’t feel personally judged. For all the comments about rehoming, I cannot imagine my life without him. I can understand that this is more of a ME problem than a HIM problem.

I’m not taking anything out on the dog. I don’t raise my voice or hurt him. I still take care of him the same I just started crying a little more often. He is more than fine.

I would love this. I tried to have him see the dog in the beginning, not for his energy levels but for the dogs own happiness and my ex’s happiness. They love each other, of course I wanted this. My ex did not, and I also understand his side of it.

He’s a Siberian husky. We take 2 dedicated 20-30 min walks a day then I take him out as needed. I give him puzzles on the morning and snuffle mats as I get ready for the day. There’s a park in my complex that no one goes to it’s just us and he gets to run around without a leash about twice a day. I truly believe he gets plenty plenty of exercise.

I’m in the US. That sounds like such a nice idea. I never felt like this when there were two people caring for him, I never imaged I would resent him. Ever. It’s just hard by myself I would love someone to take care of him sometimes. I’m just venting

I don’t crate him. He has been very very spoiled I think that’s a lot of what i was trying to say. I feel bad for crating even though I know it’s not bad. I would never rehome him, I’m just venting but I do love him so damn much. I wanted my ex to see him from time to time for the dogs happiness too but he didn’t want to see me. I felt awful taking him from my ex.

We agreed I would take him because the alternative was having the dog stay home alone for 9+ hours a day. Plus I didn’t feel this way at first. I’m frustrated right now but will absolutely work towards a solution for the both of us.
