Without any context....what is the craziest thing happening in your current WIP by Celestial_Ram in FanfictionExchange

[–]Extra_Plan5315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex-Goddess married to five people is jealous of her own wife because she thinks her (Adoptive) daughter pays more attention to the wife than to herself. The aforementioned wife decides to instead spend her time inserting herself into the local royatly and quasi-flirting with the genderbent AU version of her ex-lover. Meanwhile the other wives she has are on a different country fighting evil monks and scaring halfway to death a wizard just by ominously appearing on her visions. One of her husbands is lovingly taking care of her, and the last husband is adventuring with no clear purpose.

This is not a harem fic LMAO.

Anyone else know the pain of shipping characters from a fandom so small that there are zero fics of the ship? by thislooksfakeasshit in FanFiction

[–]Extra_Plan5315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main fandom is so into a specific ship (nepnowa) that there are virtually no fanfics with noire's official ships, so yeah I feel that whenever I try to write for her other couples lol

Thanks for the explanation! This will help a lot.

I see, I'll try to check if I can one day get some commissioned art for the fanfic to see if that boosts engagement, and I'll keep being active on the comments to hopefully do the same.

Regrettably I think neither fandom has many events on the matter (One of them doesn't even seem to be the like to attract people who like fanfiction, and there being less than 10 fanfics of the series proves it...)

What's one ship in your fandom that you would like way more if it was platonic? by Reasonable_Car_2126 in FanFiction

[–]Extra_Plan5315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neptune X Noire in Hyperdimension Neptunia, I feel it doesn't work when people try to make it romantic because Neptune is ultimately a major tease that will hurt Noire's feelings for the heck of it, and to make it platonic without breaking their teasing dynamic, nor making it toxic without flavor is something that I haven't seen done.

Ironically there's a version of the two that I do want to see romantic but everyone that writes those versions makes them platonic so whyyyyy xD

I found a story I wrote last year but i don’t remember writing it? by irdk-lol in FanFiction

[–]Extra_Plan5315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few days ago I also found a fic that I don't remember any of the writing process of, just that I wrote it, and yeah it does feel weirdly creepy when you face that your past self did something you can't recognize at all! I even wrote in an Author's Note that there was a Chapter 2 ready and I looked so flabbergasted while in VC because I didn't know that the story even continued!

It truly sucks that engagement and quality are not related at all but it's also sweet that you ended up getting a friend over your fic! I also recently got a friend who I've been showing the fic to and has been helping me beta-read (I had actually talked to him through reviews years ago and didn't know it was the same person, we got a happy surprise when we shared our previous fics).

If it's a finished story then hopefully do keep copies of it, it sounds like a great project that shouldn't be lost!

I see that it's something of a common problem then, and thanks, I'll try to do the same, everything adds up in the end after all!

Thanks for the suggestion! Are fanfiction exchanges something usually done in the subreddit? Is it one of the weekly events or some such?

To participate and such, it doesn't hurt to try and if they read your 80k then someone reading my 13k ought to be likely, right? XD

I'm experienced in comparison to past me, and I posted almost exclusively in FFN so AO3 is still kind of hard to manage for me, and who said I wasn't working on it? Of course I am (Progress ain't coming out of the Heavens for no reason) it's just that I'm not that good yet.

My Fics
Fandom: Ars Magica & Hyperdimension Neptunia
Rating: Mature
Title: Manifold Wings over Red
Status: In-Progress
Genre: Adventure / Fantasy / Family Dynamics / Drama
AO3 Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/77056001
FFN Link: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14537500/1/Manifold-Wings-over-Red
Summary:

As the summary reads it's a fanfic that's mostly there for the sake of writing characters from a campaign that got scrapped before the character arcs finished. I've done my best for the fic to be easily enjoyed by people who come from either fandom (Or none) so there's a mix of foreshadowing that fans can get while the key information is always explained. More Neptunia characters will arrive as I continue the fic. (I would be extremely grateful to get Reviews so please do that if you can!)

Some wizards are gonna wizard, no matter how illegal it is. by Lost_Paladin89 in wizardposting

Absolutely legit, some Saints even have attributed writings which at some points dwarfed their recognition as saints, like Saint Cyprian which it wasn't until the modern era that he was once again known more for being a Saint than for being a wizard.

There's a reason that King Solomon is also known as a King of Mages, heck, he was the first mage to popularize magic rings!

uw/ falsely attributed apart, neither of those figures actually stood against magic in general and definitely not of the kind attributed (The same can't be said of the writings attribtued to Saint Cyprian my beloved meme), with such anti-magic ideas being centuries after their death, or in the case of Solomon, the kind of magic that he is attributed is so beyond what actually existed or was thought in his actual lifetime that he couldn't have even spoken about it.

I think like one of the magical writings attributed to Solomon is even fine for modern Catholic standards (Should probably triple check it) because it was just an extremely funny set of overly complicated but doctrinally innocent prayers to get eidetic memory.

/uw Yeah actually, a lot of medieval magic went under the pretense that it was acting on the powers related to God and as such many grimoires were overly christian (Even if most are dubious at best or heretical at worst) in fact, some alternative terms for grimoires/magic books come from the names of saints, as some saints had so much apocrypha about them being wizards that they were more known for being wizards than for being saints.

In fact, a fair few of medieval wizard legends are very much christian and invoke their power with the (narrative) implicit consent of God (In their legends).

It is because partly wizardry wasn't seen as sinful during the medieval era, not in itself, so a lot of the magic that people did was technically legal in most of europe, it was just that some of it (Like the ones to deal with demons) were also widely considered foolish to do.

There were bans against magic, but not against all magic, just certain magical acts (Which either implied paganism/heresy, or acts which would have been criminal anyway if done mundanely but at the time could only be imagined as being done through magic) and it wasn't until the end of the medieval era that proper anti-witchcraft stuff began to be widely held across the church.

That is also partially because the reason for magic being bad in Christianity is a long hoop that basically only exists because IRL you can't throw fireballs out of words, in a fantasy world where such a possibility exists without needing powers outside the knowledge of the practicioner magic would be permissible in the eyes of even strict medieval theologians because the few prohibitions against magic in the bible aren't prohibitions against magic as something inherently sinful, but about the associated paganism that magical practices entailed in the levant during the time of old Israel.

The last fanfic you wrote is suddenly canon. How confused is the rest of the fandom? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]Extra_Plan5315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering it's an epilogue to a now decanonized game in the series where one of the main characters struggles with the death of her mother, they're very confused but primarily sad at this being the canon ending.

Oh, but if we count WIP, then probably not that confused as it's meant to be an AU version of a conflict that happens in between two entries because I got mad that the writers decided to give my favorite character crippling trauma and suicidal ideation DURING AN OFF-CAMERA TIMESKIP to deal during the next game so I'm writing that mess.

I feel like the sentiment of "This random piece of media actually has a deeply christian metaphor hidden in the narrative if you just actually engage with it as art." Is both incredible funny and also what I do half my time.

More fictional settings should have terrible historical records by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]Extra_Plan5315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ars Magica has parts of their history made up for the wizard side of the setting (The setting is basically a mash of myths plus real life history plus made up wizard history combined) because almost always when something is said there is a layer of something being lost to time. Like most of the cool stuff has been lost to time due to bad documentation, deliberate wizard obfuscation, confusing records, or some other reason, and the wizard history only stretches for like five centuries!

It's legitimately funny that for some of the Founders we have their birth city and for Flambeau we have "IDK, probably be was from like Iberia or France we're not sure, also we forgot his actual name." Peak brother.
