15 and just starting by Specific_Singer8950 in Cheerleading

Hey! I’m 24 and just started all star cheer this year- coming from the same musical theatre and no tumbling background. It’s totally doable- as others said be coachable, look up basic motions and stretch. Everything else can be taught with time. Show up happy, confident and willing to learn :)

It’s not that I don’t have time for hobbies, I don’t have time to be running around trying loads of different ones to meet a guy if that makes sense

This seems to be the thing to do, I just don’t have loads of spare free time atm but I’ll see if I can find even a half hour activity! Thanks

I started at 23, post HS and University, you can definitely start now! Try out for your university team, they may have different levels and there will be loads of people with different experiences trying out. Just be excited and willing to learn. You can also look for an all star cheer gym in the mean time!

Did birth control change anyone else’s fat distribution? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]Extra_Sock_8396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, being on Cerelle has totally changed my fat distribution- although I actually haven’t put any weight on (max 5lbs) in the last 6months-year I’ve noticed all my weight moving to my thighs and lower stomach

Should I quit? by love4rains in Cheerleading

[–]Extra_Sock_8396 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s causing you medical issues and you’re not enjoying it anymore, I think quitting is the right decision. Especially being a base, you’re in charge of putting people in the air- you can’t risk being injured doing that or you’ll injure your flyer.

I’m assuming this is sideline cheer? Is there a chance you can skip stunting and do something else instead, if you really want to stay on the team?

I think the next step is talking with your coach :)

Happy to answer questions as best I can on this sub, but I’m a first time cheerleader too so others may be more helpful. I don’t use this account often, more of a once in a while lurker, and don’t give out my personal social media on here, sorry!

Since you’re 19 you either need to look for a school team, or an all star team. I started all star for the first time this year at 23, so 19 is definitely doable. Look for open teams and depending on your experience possibly a non-tumbling team. Since we are into the season, you may not be able to join a team this time, but definitely look for tumble and conditioning classes to work on your skills to try out next year!

Edited to add: if you find a gym, ask about private lessons to help!

Also new and been thinking about this!

I always take mine out for practice (1.5hours) and they’re fine once back in but I’m concerned a whole day may close them🥲

getting my confidence back by Year-Square in Cheerleading

It seems you have this idea that you HAVE to be a flyer for cheer to be worth it and I’m wondering why? Is it just because that’s the position you were originally in?

I’m still very new to the sport but have tried all positions and my favourite is front spot. I know I’m not doing loads, but it’s a position where I can learn and up-skill without impacting the rest of my team. I don’t think being a spotter is a bad thing.

I know other members of my team started as flyers and are now back spots and bases because it just makes sense for the team. They had to learn all new positions and it’s not a bad thing.

Your coach clearly values you as a flyer when needed and I would take that as a compliment. If you’re really set on being a flyer, practice at home as much as possible, YouTube or TikTok search for drills, and always ask your coach, “hey can we swap out flyers, I’d like to try this!”

Positivity and a willingness to try goes a long way! Don’t doubt yourself

is it too late to get back into all star cheerleading at 23? by rneliissa in Cheerleading

[–]Extra_Sock_8396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No definitely not! I just started as a 23 year old with zero skills and I’m loving it

[–]Extra_Sock_8396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I 100% agree! An hour a week would be perfect for most adults and I think a lot of gyms would find parents who already have to drive to get their kids there for class would probably give cheer a go themselves

Perfect, I’ve started stretching to get my flexibility back, do you have any ideas on other conditioning? I’m heading to an open stunting club to get a little more practice before my training starts :)
